38 SPL. loading info

Recommended Posts

I posted this in a different forum but I am hoping someone can help.

I'm used to loading 2.8 Gr. bullseye with 148 Gr. HBWC for 38 SPL.

Just got a good price for 148 GR DEWC. My question is can I stay

with 2.8 GR, or should I work up a new load?

Any advice would be appreciated!

HBWC seat flush with the case. Some people crimp DEWC in the top crimp groove, I seat them flush with good results. As long as your load is not at the max loading I would try the same load. You may find that you need to adjust charges because the bullets are different. HBWC are designed to seal the barrel as they shoot. Good luck

Have you had a chance to try out the load yet?

Yes, I tried it this week. I only reloaded 2.8 Gr and it felt perfect.

I think it was a slight bit hotter, kind of snappier if you know what I

mean. But it was really accurate and it felt good.

Was shooting it in a 686

Mine is a 6" as well. I really like the stock wood grips. Have you tried Trail Boss yet for loading lead? It is an awsome powder.

Funny you should ask that.To answer your question, no I haven"t

tried Trail Boss. I"ve been reloading for quite a few years and have

gotten kind of stuck in a Bullseye powder funk. I have been thinking

of trying some different powders. It might be fun to work up some

new loads with new powders. Have been thinking Clays, but now

will look into Trail Boss too. What do you really like about it?
