PoorSoulInJersey 1 Posted April 26, 2009 I was looking at a Dragunov yesterday. It seemed pretty cool (I'm not so sure about the scope... it looked neat, but kind of clunky at the same time). Does anyone own one and have any thoughts on it?
PoorSoulInJersey 1 Posted April 26, 2009 correction, it's a Romanian PSL, Dragunov clone.
tbtrout 141 Posted April 26, 2009 It would be pretty cool to have one if I had everything else I wanted. From what I have read and been told they are accurate enough for thier intended purpose, 18x18 center mass body shots, not precision.
PoorSoulInJersey 1 Posted April 27, 2009 I'm only going to be taking it to the range anyway. I'm not a hunter or anything. I have to admit, part of the draw is that is just looks SO cool!
tbtrout 141 Posted April 27, 2009 They are appealing. For range work shooting 3 moa is ok if that is what you like. I am unsure about ammo availibility right now. They take 7.62x54 good luck
Maksim 1,504 Posted April 27, 2009 they are as good as the ammo you shoot through it. The russian and chinese originals are far superior and accurate, the extractors are better. But for the price, the romaks are nice. if you want to shoot them 1moa... you need match ammo.
tbtrout 141 Posted April 27, 2009 And I do believe Maksim would know.
Maksim 1,504 Posted April 27, 2009 http://dragunov.net/ Great website for all things dragunov. I am going to Ukraine/Israel this summer and wondering about hopping to russia and see if I can find an original dragunov to import back here. I think I found the atf form I need to send in to get a permit to import one.
PoorSoulInJersey 1 Posted April 27, 2009 I just found that site. It really does have a ton of info. I found a couple places have cheaper plinking ammo online that's about the price of 9mm (before the craze) at about $0.19 a round.
Mauser88 0 Posted April 27, 2009 I had one and sold it. Trigger wasn't great and wearing eyeglasses with that scope wasn't comfortable. Also the stock was too short for me.
hotshot 4 Posted May 14, 2009 when you are ready for ammo go with the lighter loads they seem to be more accurate..
BMWR12 35 Posted May 15, 2009 I got an earlier IO SSG97 setup and I am pretty satisfied with it. It shoots well at 300 yards. It does have a heavy recoil for a semi auto though.
hannibal 0 Posted May 15, 2009 Be aware that a lot of 7.62x54R is corrosive, so you should take the appropriate steps when cleaning.
PoorSoulInJersey 1 Posted May 16, 2009 I found Sportsmansguide had a non-corrosive one for $0.19 a round. I loaded up, since that's about the cheapest non-22lr I can find right now.

I'm assuming you are referring to their Bulgarian surplus. Despite what they say, I would treat it as corrosive. Most 7.62x39R surplus is corrosive and I am pretty sure the Bulgarian is no exception. Just to be safe run some Windex down the barrel and wipe down the gas system before doing a normal cleaning. It will only take a few minutes and if it turns out to be non-corrosive it can't hurt.
