Actually Bent Creek won't let anyone under 12 on a guided hunt. I'm not sure how strict they are with this but that's what their brochure says.

Is it possible/practical to pheasant hunt at Assunpink without a dog? I took my son on youthday and the state provided dogs and guides and he loved it. I don't think he'll like walking around a field for hours and not even seeing a bird. I would hate for him to get turned off to hunting at such an early age. Outside of hiring a guide or going to a place like Bent Creek, is there any way to hook up with some one who just wants to run/train their dogs ? Getting my own dog is not an option at this time but might be in the future.

Well my first move would to be keep it off the internet.

Just a note: This does not provide you with a hunting licence. This gets you a Hunter Education card which you need to show to get a licence. In order to get a hunting licence you need to go to a state licencing agent and PAY for your licence. The cost will depend on wha,t when, and where you want to hunt. Getting the Education Card is pretty straight forward, figuring out what to get and do next is when the mayhem ensues.

Cabela's in Delaware isn't a bad ride. My wife and I went there last year to get her a shotgun for trap. The gentleman at the counter spent a solid 45 minutes with her and showed just about everything on the wall. I walk away and let her make her own decision. She ended u with a 28 gauge O/U that I never would of thought of. She loves the gun. The important thing is to let her decide on her gun.

As for "cover" on or off, is not the location a factor as well? That is, cover "outdoors" uncover "indoors?" Unless you are from Texas a gentleman never wears a hat indoors.

Thanks Bill. I was hoping that was all there was to it. I've seen that for a couple of different brand of guns, but not for the Ruger.

I recently bought a used Ruger Red label 12g O/U. Love the gun overall but it has ejectors and i would much rather have extractors. Is there an easy fix for this or do I need to send it to Ruger? It's a 2000 production model. I called Ruger and they said it is not a service they provide.

Yes you are overthinking this. Load your car , get your friend, put his stuff in your car and go shooting. Do the opposite on your way home. Am I the only one the cops aren't following around 24/7 to see if I break any gun laws? Or maybe I'm the only one not driving around waving them out he window of my car?
