  1. I went to a local gun auction today and had to bring this bad boy home. Its a US model 1861 musket with a cool story written on a note on the buttstock. I for some odd reason cannot get my camera to take pictures worth a damn inside with incandescent light so hopefully I can get some better pictures tomorrow when it is light out. I am sorry for the bad pics but you can at least read the note......:-)
  2. USN as you could figure out, I was an electronics nerd overseas but I got to play with some cool toys.
  3. lol, Thanks fellas. As soon as we start seeing some global warming I am hoping to get out and shoot it a little.
  4. I recently finished a nice remington 37 custom job and am hopefully sighting it in sometime this week. I haven't really used a true target gun before so I am used to just using the bulk remington bricks out of my 10/22's. Something like this I want to use a quality ammo to see how it actually performs. What do you use?
  5. from what i've seen all of them are loose. once in the stock it shold be solid though
  6. sorry for the crappy pics, I can never seem to get any good ones indoors. So with the bad lighting here are some preliminary ones.
  7. Well the pink elephant strikes again..... I recently found a M1d Garand and I am a little bit of a Garand nerd so I kinda know my stuff. When I found it, the first thing I notice is the receiver is a IHC, so I ask if I can take the stock off and to my surprise I see the gun appears 100% IHC, oprod and all. So I then ask if I can remove the handguards to check the drawing number and sure as heck it has the proper 555. It came with an original M84, cheekpad and mount, unfortunately no flash hider. When I saw the price tag, I knew it was coming home with me. So for a price less than a M84, I got the whole package. Now I just need to send a letter to see if paperwork exists. I am definately tweaking a little bit right now. Pics will be loaded shortly.
  8. If I remember right the type 99 safety was used as a replacement on type 38's as long as a type 99 firing pin was used. If you got it and are looking for the wood give me a shout. I have a donor Jap that I can part with.
  9. I am in warren county, offer still stands
  10. heck I am off for the next 3 weeks. I volunteer to go look at it with you.
  11. I get home on the friday before so although i haven't been home and shooting in a looooong time I will try and make it. Hopefulyl my toys are still sighted in properly.
  12. AP tends to be more accurate than normal ball, but Orest said expect the AP to be corrosive from the 40's
  13. I didn't anneal for a while then after a friend showed me how to years ago I realized that I am getting a lot longer brass life. Now annealing is second nature.
  14. This is also done as a wedding tradition for hillfolk. I've been to one in Georgia and it was a blast.
  15. I'll semi rub it in. Its about 55 here in the Gulf of Mexico offshore, but then again I am dealing with 15+ ft seas and higher forecasted.
  16. With all of the easier laws to challenge why CCW. The State even admits that it takes a deficit for pistol permits and that they are antiquated. The AWB, the one gun a month. Isn't there easier ways to flex muscles than CCW? Wouldn't the resources be better off spent elsewhere?
  17. Thats why the early low SN M1A's are cherished by shooters, now manufacturers are cutting corners to make a profit.
  18. well I haven't been home yet to play but the project now includes a Unertl. It keeps getting more and more wild.
