  1. CMP is the best way to get them and service grades are $625, they are your best bet.
  2. They are an amazing gun, that helped free millions from opression. The walnut is warm and the all the dings and dents have a story. They are awesome.
  3. yup, there was a screaming deal on Lapua brass not too long ago so I bought a lifetime supply. Most of them love a Hornady 150gr .308 SST and 4064 powder, that normally is my go to load. My PE sniper is the only one that doesn't like it so it gets 180gr .312 RN's.
  4. lol, I get screamed at all the time when I use an all/16" wrench. Normally just keep one in my pocket.
  5. or when you can do 10 shots with a mosin at 100 and get this group... or 5 shots like this I personally get my rocks off when I go to the range and outshoot a $1000 remchesterby with a $79 mosin.............
  6. go shotgun. There is a reason they are the primary gun used for turkeys.
  7. I can say I heard that 7 bricks fit nicely in a 30 cal ammo can with enough room for a 4x4 desiccant bag..........
  8. nah, the biggest dogs were the ones i ordered from Aztec a year and a half ago. Shoulda known what you were going to get for $39.....
  9. fortunately all of my gun shopping is done in pa except for pistols. I have grown fond and accustomed to the walk in and walk back out style of doing business.
  10. Garand and Ruger 10/22... Both of them reliable as hell, cheap and plentiful ammo is a plus and unlike many guns that have an A and a R in the name, they aren't know to break for jam.
  11. I bought my first one for $29 years ago and when i found with some minor tweaks they can be extremely accurate... then the addiction started. But now i focus on Finns, Tikkas especially, since they are rarer the hunt takes longer.
  12. Kroil on rust works wonders. Pb blaster is a close second. If a little extra work means not having to reblue it is worth it.
  13. First off try some penetrating oil and bronze wool on the bluing. It doesnt look that bad, just some superficial surface rust that if it hasnt been on too long it will come right off. You will be amazed what a good cleaning will do. For the stock go to home depot and get some citristrip, a stain that you like, and minwax gloss lacquer. On the ride home stop at an auto parts place and get some 600 grit wet sandpaper. Strip and refinish the stock then spray the lacquer on. Wet sand between coats and repeat. The more coats the higher gloss. I did a garand stock this way and it looks like it was dipped in glass after 143 coats
  14. There was an old man that lived down the road from us when I grew up. I enlisted in the military on the day after 9-11 and when i got back from MEPS he came over for a visit. He said there are 2 rifles in the trunk of my car that i brought home from Bastogne, will you clean them for me? So I open the trunk of his car to see 2 k98`s in the original box he shipped them home in, the box was labeled pool ques. He handed me one of them and said "I have wanted to give these to you for a while, but wasnt sure if you would understand. You joined the military in a time of war and now you are a man in my eyes..... you`re ready for them now. Please take good care of them for me." He then got in his car and drove away. Phil unfortunately passed away a few months ago and I will cherish the rifles for the rest of my life.
  15. I see stuff on a daily basis that would make 90% of the population never go in the ocean ever again. There are more critters that nobody knows exists just cruising the waters. The old timey sea monsters from the days of sailing ships are a reality not fantasy......
  16. Depending on where you are give me a shout when i get home from work in a week. I am in Warren county and we'll get you straightened out right away. The average CMP gun for a service grade, which most people get, is 625. These are guns that havent been built by the CMP, they are real GI guns. The ones for 925~ are the service grade specials which are built by the CMP and have almost no historical value. For anyone wanting a Garand, get a service grade and you'll be happy with it. And the CMP stands behind their stuff 100%, any issues and they will make it right.
  17. +1 Nick. If you want a Garand, CMP is the way to go.... not someone that is doing it for double the price.
  18. prepare..... if you thought the LA riots were bad, this was manipulated by the media on a national level. LA will be every city when GZ is found to be within the Florida stand your ground laws and charges dismissed.
  19. I see a large portion of Americans have been effectively Pussified. I make a good living for myself and work my butt off to get what I have. I am highly educated but and I take pride in doing things myself, not paying others to do it for me. Americans are getting lazy and that is the best way to put it. Not all, just a large portion. Ask your coworkers if they change their own oil, I bett they almost all say no. Out of that majority that say no, a good portion of them wouldn't even know where the drain plug on the oil pan is. We have become a society of luxury, and not self sufficiency. As with those that live off the big government say, why do it yourself when someone else will do it for me.
  20. I am agreeing with the enblocs, and oprod spring. The oprod spring pushes up on the follower arm, which pushes up on the follower which pushes the rounds up to get picked up by the bolt. If the spring is worn the bolt is beating itself on the inside of the reveiver heel and would have feed issues. Get some GI enblocs and a complete spring kit from Orion7. Just like nick every shooter Garand that I have gets a Orion spring kit before I take it to the range. Also I have heard more than my share of horror stories when it comes to the Garand Guy. He kinda has a reputation of taking advantage of those who dont know better, or at least I am told.
  21. depending where you are located i could hook you up when i get home from work in a week and a half
  22. I drive a Jeep Wrangler every day and once in a blue moon only when the stars are right I take my '67 Chevelle SS out to play.
  23. here is the match Garand that I built. It has a hundred fourty somethin coats of lacquer. Took forever wet sanding between coats but the result was worth it.
