  1. Welcome from Bergen County!
  2. Your logic is watertight, unfortunately. However, and this is a thinking out loud topic, what if there was some way to hold prosecutors accountable for over-zealous prosecutions against someone who makes a simple mistake. And by "mistake" I mean something that merely slips your mind. One of the reasons I had my wife get her own FID was so that if I lost a round in the car and she was pulled over, she wouldn't get arrested for "gang related activity," or whatever charge they would attach to that mistake. Or in the case of Revell, who had no options whatsoever, and still got arrested and convicted? Those laws were never meant for a situation like that. And yet he got arrested for something that was out of his hands. I know that legally prosecutors are "held accountable" when their convictions are overturned by higher courts. But I thought that attorneys must provide the best defense for their clients, or else they themselves are in violation of the law. What if prosecutors were held to some sort of similar standard when it came to criminally pursuing "crimes" which were obviously not criminal to begin with?
  3. I've been thinking about this for some time, due to the recent legal cases in the news (i.e. Brian Aitken, Revell v. Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, etc.) It seems that so many of New Jersey's anti-gun "feelings" that have been brought up by politicians, and that are then force-fed to the general population through nightly news stories all hinge on gun-trafficking, "assault weapons," and "massive arsenals" that law-abiding citizens legally own. However, when the inevitable laws are created and passed, common folk always get caught up in the policing of these laws, and as is the case in Aitken and Revell, they are convicted due to overprosecution of said laws, when in fact their situations were NOT criminally intended. We've all seen the results. My question is this: Since politicians like Bloomberg and his type use their resources to get ambiguous laws passed that harm more law-abiding citizens than actual criminals, should not the laws have added conditions that those arrested should have to be PROVEN to be engaging in such criminal behavior as gun-running? Just my thinking out loud, but does anyone have any thoughts? Except for "This is New Jersey, get used to it!"
  4. Magic Hat "Blind Faith" IPA, needed it after the faculty meeting today.
  5. By the way, just what IS a canuck?
  6. Congratulations, and thank you for serving!
  7. A flip of the coin? Seriously, I heard nothing but great things about both of them, but I got swayed by friends who had the Remingtons (not too many had the Mossbergs). I ended up with this one, with the ghost rings. Rem Tactical I'm hoping to get it to the range tomorrow, but with a sick 5 year old out from school (I'm on vacation) I don't see that happening!
  8. I posted this question in the handgun permit sticky, but I figured I would make a new post here. I'm in the process of filling out my paperwork again for some permits, and I don't want to be a pest for my past references. I wanted to use my bro-in-law, but the application says no relatives. Question: Are in-laws relatives in the eyes of the law?
  9. HA! Your purchases are pretty much the same as mine. Ruger 10/22, then a Remington 870 for HD(I was torn between the Mossberg and Remington), Beretta PX4, and THEN my 92fs. I actually have another 92 frame sitting in my safe. My next purchase will most likely be a Browning Buck Mark 22, nice and cheap to practice with. Nice choices, have fun!
  10. Quick question about references...this will be my 3rd time going through the permit process, and I was thinking about using my bro-in-law as a reference. Is he considered a relative?
  11. Awesome...I hope you don't mind that I downloaded and saved a few of them?
  12. Great job Justin! I agree with the filtering, but you've done a great job. Good luck!
  13. How about the Remington Shurshot stock? I've always wondered about that. Shurshot
  14. Answer the door. "Sorry sir, I just gave them all over to the LAST group of officers who were looking for them. They SEEMED official enough."
  15. I tend to agree, I'd be much happier keeping the local shop in business, if it means that there will still be one more "bastion of freedom" in this messed up state. But for future reference, how acceptable IS haggling in a local shop?
  16. Happy Birthday Ed! And I'd like to know who's wearing the Infidel t-shirt.
  17. Out of curiosity...All of my firearms to date have been purchased over the internet, and shipped to local FFLs. I have my eye on something new, and my closest FFL has it in stock, but noone else does (and my thanks go out to the men and women who responded through the price request!). My question starts with this: with purchase price, plus shipping, plus transfer fee my best internet price is 20 - 30 dollars less than what my local shop has it for. Should I try to haggle the local price down? Or not try to ruffle feathers since I'll be likely to use them again to transfer other firearms in, and buy other gun related purchases there. Ramsey Outdoor Store, by the way.
  18. Granting of permit or identification card; fee; term; renewal; revocation. The application for the permit to purchase a handgun together with a fee of $2, or the application for the firearms purchaser identification card together with a fee of $5, shall be delivered or forwarded to the licensing authority who shall investigate the same and, unless good cause for the denial thereof appears, shall grant the permit or the identification card, or both, if application has been made therefor, within 30 days from the date of receipt of the application for residents of this State and within 45 days for nonresident applicants.
  19. Hmm, I was looking to get a 22, and had narrowed the choices to a Buck Mark, the Mark III, or the 22/45. I haven't made up my mind, but I was leaning towards a stainless Buck Mark Camper, in large part to the the field stripping ease, over either Ruger. Seeing that video, and seeing vids on the Buck Mark disassembly, it seems that this kit may make me lean back to the Rugers. I know that this is similar to a Chevy/Ford decision, but metaphorically speaking, if you need to remove the exhaust system to change the oil (regular Rugar disassembly) then you would be tempted to lean towards the other vehicle. This kit evens up my decision. Darn. Any suggestions? In your opinions, would this be a "game changer" to look at the Rugers?
  20. Welcome from a fellow Bergen Countier!
