$20/hour works out to roughly $40k/year (40 hour weeks, 50 weeks of work a year, 2 weeks of vacation). Risking your life for $40k/year? Not worth it in my book.

Is there a "try and see" period?

Well I was using a P and S Canon Powershot Sunday but I have a Canon EOS as well. It's tough enough to get teh blast and or the eject let alone getting the bullet strike. I would be interested to know how you would reccomemd without getting too much motion blur. Set your DSLR in continuous mode. Don't move. Tripod best of course. Hold the shutter release down at the right time....post process and photoshop the two together. Basic crop job should work just fine. If you do want to move the camera, use a stitcher(I use PTgui), like I did to make these of my vacation 3 weeks ago: http://thewellrats.com/malbor2/west/Pans/ It allows you to choose how the various images blend. That crater shot is cool.... you do see a part where there's a stitching problem at the bottom left though!

Airsoft. 6 shot grenade launcher. Most of the 40mm grenades are more like shotgun shells though - mine are 120 round shells. If you wanted to try out airsoft, I have plenty of gear including loaner stuff
