  1. I don't know any places down that way, but pick a good place and a night and I'll try like hell to make it.
  2. Somehow I missed the deadline, but I picked up one more HG on Christmas Eve, a Springfield XD9 subcompact. I got it for a CCW, and it turns out to be a nicer shooter than I imagined. So in summary, I started 2011 with a Glock 23, and ended up adding 6 HG's (half of them Glocks); three .22 rifles; an AR: and a shotgun. Took the time to total my guns, ammo, training, and related expenses for the year, and it was a pretty big number. Now I'm not supporting any kids, I have no wife, and no alimony payments, so nobody to answer to. But how do the rest of you do it?
  3. I'm hoping to be there around 1:00, depending on how my morning goes. I'll look for you.
  4. It has been my informal observation that about 80-90% of LEO's accept firearms as a part of their job, and train only enough to be able to qualify a couple of times a year; while the remaining 10-20% (probably closer to 10%) are very enthusiastic, pursuing training beyond what their department offers, even at their own time and expense.
  5. Wishing a great 2012 to Anthony and the rest of the gang at GFH! I look forward to training with you guys in the new year.
  6. I have a GSG-522, and it's kind of fun. But I would have to say that I like my 15-22 a lot better.
  7. I saw that you guys were meeting yesterday, but unfortunately I was unable to make it. I'm hoping to get there tomorrow, probably late morning or early afternoon. Anyone else planning to be there?
  8. Any NJGF people meeting there? I've been there a bunch and have probably crossed paths with some of you, but there's no way to know who's who. Perhaps we should try to schedule a meetup.
  9. I you want a really good looking gun that's fun to shoot, this is a great cholce.
  10. Actually, it would kind of suck for non-residents to be allowed to carry in our state, while we can't.
  11. Wombat, that is truly awesome! I would have liked to have seen you use your Christmas tree for concealment. (It's clearly not cover!) I saw some Airsoft guns recently, and thought they looked pretty realistic. I thought of starting a thread here to see if they are fun or of value for practice, but it looks like you've answered my question. I'm going to have to take another look at them ASAP.
  12. The NY Times has long since given up any pretense of being the bastion of unbiased journalism that they may have once been. Instead, they unabashedly advance a liberal agenda, not just in their editorial content, but in their news stories as well.
  13. I saw that as well. I haven't been up there in the last couple of weeks to check it out, but as you note, it's nice to see them continuing to make improvements.
  14. God, those Hitler videos are all hilarious! I had not seen the Glock and Bushmaster ones.
  15. What a beautiful gun! Good luck with it. Have you been shooting much at RTSP? I've been there quite a bit, so perhaps we'll run into each other again.
  16. Great thread! Some really funny replies. I've often thought about that when I'm down my basement cleaning my guns. I think I could shoot close to 15 yards, certainly well within range for most defensive scenarios. Wouldn't that be sort of, you know, illegal?
  17. I know that we've been over and over this, but just so I'm clear, if we count the day of purchase as day one, then the next purchase can be on day 31, correct? Or if we don't start counting until the next day after purchase, then the next purchase can be on day 30? Sorry to be such a simpleton.
  18. Full-auto and larger mags would definitely be a plus in a SHTF situation. IMHO, they're not worth risking jail time for, but I guess if one had a really good hiding place...
  19. Wow, what discipline! The first thing I want to do when I get a new gun (and I think I speak for most of us) is take it out and start shooting it. Take a First Steps Pistol class at GFH, and they will help you out with your grip and just about everything else you can think of. Good luck to you!
  20. It's not exactly that I can't stand it. I view it more as a necessary evil. An interesting poll would be to see how long people spend cleaning their guns. I typically have my Glocks apart, cleaned, and back together in less than 10 minutes. I was at an NRA Basic Pistol class where one of the instructors told us he takes about an hour to clean a gun, and then proceeded to show us the entire process. It was like he was making love to his gun.
  21. Quite an interesting read, and that looks like a good thread, although I've only skimmed the surface of its 44 pages. Thanks for posting it. Some of the posters make the point of how we can tend to romanticize a SHTF situation, while the realities of it can be brutal, regardless of one's level of preparation.
  22. "Why do you need a gun?" This is mostly the attitude in the area where I live in northern NJ. Even family members only grudgingly accept the fact that I am armed. My long term GF refuses to come to the range with me (I'm always a bit jealous when I see guys with their SO's shooting), and only believes that I have maybe a gun or two. As others have noted, I see no need to have any stickers or other displays to indicate that I am an armed citizen, as they would seem to make me a target for break-ins and for overzealous LEO's.
