  1. I never really thought much about hearing protection until I was reading an article recently which pointed out that after a few shots in an enclosed room, one would likely lose hearing (temporarily, I would hope), making it more difficult to deal with further threats. So I have now added electronic ear protection to the things I keep beside my bed. As Caine notes, one can only hope to have the presence of mind in a situation to put them on and remember to turn them on. In addition to my hearing protection, I have a Mossberg 500 Persuader and a Glock 23. I probably should have a flashlight as well, but I'm afraid that it would provide the BG's with a beacon at which to shoot.
  2. This whole thing has the ring of a story that has more to it than we're being told.
  3. What kind of answer did you expect to get from us? Try posting your question on Sensitivehusbands.com and see what response you get.
  4. Well the NJ Summer Biathlon Association held their second event of the year yesterday, a 5K with two shooting stages of 5 shots each, prone and standing. Once again, I competed in the Sport division (11.5 cm. targets at 25 meters); and once again I shot like crap. (It's really hard to steady oneself after coming in from a hard run!) For each miss, we were required to complete a 70 meter penalty loop. Despite my poor efforts on the range, I lost by less than 15 seconds. To make me feel worse, in my enthusiasm to get back on the course after the first round of shooting, I headed out without completing my penalty loops. Got from the shotgun range out past the clubhouse, when I suddenly shouted out "Oh s**t!," leaving people standing nearby to look at me with wide-eyed wonder. I headed back, but wasted over a minute, the difference between winning easily and losing by a little bit. Of course there was no one to blame but myself, but it was indeed a bit frustrating to lose by such a dumb mistake.
  5. Warning: This is completely pointless, but mildly entertaining.
  6. Damn, I hate those fast zombies! Seems like the lumbering ones would be much easier to avoid. To all you guys who say you're out of shape, better start working out soon so you'll be ready for the REAL zombie attacks.
  7. No doubt Piazza of Front Sight is an aggressive marketer. I clicked on one of his links and now receive regular emails from him. Most of them are solicitations for the school, but I have also obtained some useful information from a number of them. I seriously doubt that I'll be attending any of their classes, as I can't think of any reason to fly out to the west coast for instruction with GFH right here.
  8. I know there are not a lot of runners on this board, but in case anyone is interested: http://runforyourlives.com/# Now if you could shoot at them, I'm sure it would be a lot more interesting.
  9. I got mine from Mastodon, but as others have noted, it should be available from any of the vendors on this site. It comes with just one 10 round mag, but I understand that 15 rounders are available.
  10. I recently looked into that same question. I'm pretty sure they are illegal in NJ. Consider getting the GSG-522, which is a clone that is made to be legal in NJ. It's available through American Tactical Imports. I just picked one up a week ago.
  11. Wow, I had to read that twice. I thought you had put the weapon to the ultimate test!
  12. Having taken Urban Pistol myself (twice), I understand exactly what you're talking about. The first time I took it, down in south Jersey, I could still feel my adrenaline racing as I was driving home. When I took it again a couple of weeks ago, I felt a lot calmer and more under control. Oh, it was still hard, but having some familiarity with the required skills made it all a bit easier. Can't wait to take UP2 next month!
  13. That's been my situation as well. Not exactly arguing, but certainly not a topic that I can bring up very often. I would love for her to be interested, and I have a feeling that if I could get her to try it, she might like it.
  14. Thinking of you guys yesterday, with the rain keeping me away from Cherry Ridge and The Bullet Hole closed on Sundays for the summer. Sure wish you were open. How are things coming along?
  15. Thanks for the post. I've been feeling the need for an AR, and that one looks like it may be a good entry level choice. Hey Glock Guy, any chance of your considering a different screen name?
  16. Try Meltzer's. I was there yesterday, and put a deposit on one. I believe they still had one left. (Don't you dare try to take mine!)
  17. When I joined this forum in March, I had a Glock 23. In the intervening five months, I have added the two listed above (with Tech Sights now on my 10/22 and Trijicon night sights on my G19, plus (in approximate chronological order): 3. S&W 15-22 4. Beretta 92A1 5. Mossberg 500 Persuader 6. Glock 34 (Just picked it up yesterday, and it's truly a joy! My third Glock, as I try to remain true to my screen name.) 7. GSG-522 (Bought and paid for; just have not yet gotten around to picking it up.) In addition, yesterday I put a deposit on a S&W M&P 9mm, so I'll have that either in thirty days, or whenever my new P2P's come in, whichever is later. (Yes, I applied for five more P2P's, but I can't imagine using more than one or two of them.)
  18. Hours of programming about the shooting sports every Wednesday night. Anyone watch? My personal favorite is Best Defense. I'm thankful to Midway USA for sponsoring it, but I still think Larry Potterfield is a bit of a dork.
  19. I thought it was a pretty good show. Yeah, I'm sure Amanda is kicking herself for using the term "badass" three times in different segments, but I guess it also depends on how it was edited.
  20. Thanks for the reply. What you say makes sense. I hope it's right.
  21. Would you be prepared? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/
  22. Just curious as to how you broach the subject?
  23. I picked this knife up from Amazon, and it was delivered promptly with free shipping. Turns out that what they mean by "assisted" is that when you push a button (with the safety off), the blade springs open. Excuse my naivety, but is that the same thing as a switchblade? Am I in violation of NJ law by owning it? (And will the NJSP come knocking at my door now that I've posted this?)
