  1. I've heard a number of people, including the guy who won the most recent season of Top Shot, say that their ultimate weapon for the zombie apocalypse would be a Ruger 10/22. I've got one, and I've been practicing a lot with it. Not sure if it will save my life, but it's great fun to shoot!
  2. Can't argue with the Beretta. (Just got one.) On the other hand, you could pick up a Glock 19 for a bit less, and that's a pretty nice gun too.
  3. LOL! No, even though I've only been a member there for a little over a month, I've tried to pay attention to the rules. In fact, the first time I was at the HG range, I was the only one there; so when I wanted to change targets, I just walked out and did so. I felt kind of dumb turning on the lights with no one else there. Well wouldn't you know it, the RO came over and told me nicely that I should put the lights on, even with no one else present, so since then I've made it a point to follow the rules as closely as I possibly can. To answer your other question, I was there from around 2:00 until a little after 4:00. I'm sure we will cross paths soon.
  4. Finally picked mine up yesterday. I love my Glocks, but I must admit that this baby is a beauty. Took it right over to Cherry Ridge, where I put about 100 rounds through it without a glitch. Pretty sweet shooter as well.
  5. Sorry I can't join you guys today. (It's that silly work thing that always seems to get in the way of fun.) I was up there for a couple of hours yesterday. That place is just a total delight, especially during the week. Only a couple of other guys on the HG range with me, then the same thing over on the 100 yard rifle range. It's such a beautiful setting, and you can stay there and just shoot and shoot until you run out of either time or ammo.
  6. A bit unlucky for me that this topic got started yesterday and not last week. I just received 175 rounds of Federal 00 buckshot 2 3/4" shells. (It came with a nifty ammo can.) When I finally get around to getting my Mossberg 500, I plan to shoot a box or two of shells to get familiar with it, then put it away for HD. Guess I'll just have to make the best of it. (And tell me neighbors to stay low if any trouble starts!)
  7. Perhaps that was it. As I noted at the start of my post, I know next to nothing about shotguns. Just thought it was an amusing observation.
  8. I took a course on shotguns recently at GFH, since I knew virtually nothing about them. One thing that stuck with me was that the instructor said that for HD/SD a pump action was much better than semi-auto, because if the former misfired, you could just pump out the bad shell; but if a semi-auto gets stuck, all you can do is throw it on the ground and run like a little girl. Just sayin'.
  9. Thanks for all of your insightful, helpful replies. Lots to consider. I guess the ultimate solution is the same as always: more P2P's!
  10. The way I read this statute, while it is nice that the OP puts a lock on his guns, or stores them in locked containers, he is not legally required to do so. Note that the law says: "...shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported,..." Nor is there any mention of requiring that ammo be stored seperately, although most seem to think that it is prudent and not much of a bother to do that.
  11. Well, lets's see, I'm old (late 50's); my first gun was a Glock; and I'm a guy. I guess not much thought went into it. I use a similar handle on other internet forums.
  12. I currently have a Glock 23 and a Glock 19. I'll finally be picking up my Beretta 92A1 on Wednesday, after a couple of glitches. That will leave me with one P2P. I would like to get something that's fun to shoot, but also has some value for HD/SD, so not a .22 HG. (I already have a couple of .22 rifles, and they're a blast.) I'm pretty sure I don't want a revolver right now, although fans of the wheelguns can feel free to advise me of some of their merits that I might be overlooking. Thought about adding another Glock to the line-up, or perhaps going with something classic, like one of the 1911's. Anyway, while thinking it all through, I've become smitten with the S&W M&P. The fact that it's a S&W is appealing. Plus it has a nice look and discussion of it seems to be universally favorable. So after all that, my question is what caliber to get? A 9mm or .40 S&W would simplify my ammo situation, since I have tons of both. Although, I should note that the G23 is not much fun to shoot, so it would probably be either 9mm or .45 ACP. I understand that the latter ammo is considerably pricier, but it is a good round for HD/SD, so perhaps I should round out my collection with something in that caliber. Any suggestions will be most appreciated.
  13. Sounds like a good time. Have fun!
  14. Love it! I'll have to add that to my repertoire.
  15. I hate it too, but I still use my cards a lot. Just be sure to pay it off every month, so you don't carry a balance. Interesting to read that a few people have had their cards hacked at gas stations. I had the same thing happen a year or so ago. Got a call from my CC bank about apparently fraudulent charges on my account. They were right on top of it, deleted the charges, and opened a new account for me (which was a mild annoyance). Be especially careful because I've heard that sophisticated hackers can get a photo of your weiner without your knowing about it, and send it out to a bunch of people to totally humiliate you.
  16. Oops, forgot to mention that was yesterday (Saturday). Sounds like I missed all the fun today. So it wasn't too bad with new member day and a tournament on the rifle range?
  17. Hey Rifleman, love your new avatar! In fact, I think I'm falling in love with her. (Apologies if that's your wife.) Looks like that beauty is on all your old posts. I kind of miss your artsy prior av, but I'm sure i'll get used to the new one.
  18. I didn't get up there until around 2:30. In fact, I just missed the 2:30 ceasefire on the HG range, so I spent a half hour loading mags and picking my nose (not literally). Was there from 3:00-3:30 with my pair of Glocks. Only a handful of people there. Talked with a couple of guys who let me try their shooters and vice versa. Was that anyone from here? Went over to 100 yard rifle, and only a few guys over there. Worked my 10/22 and S&W 15-22 from 50, then 100 yards. The accuracy of the 10/22 carbine with Tech Sights amazes me. Without a bipod or brace (although I did brace my arms on the table) I was able to put 36 of 40 rounds into a 12" target from 100 yards. I'm still struggling to find the range with the 15-22. Someone is going to have to show me how to zero that thing, or perhaps I can find a You Tube video explaining it.
  19. I'm planning to head up there today. Should arrive around noon. Anyone else from here going to be there?
  20. Mine arrived yesterday. (Just ordered them about a week ago.) Both were in pretty good condition.
  21. I've heard the same thing from two different people. Would be great if it's true, as WP is only 15 minutes from me, and we sure could use another range option.
  22. I know exactly what you mean. It's fun to come home and find boxes of stuff at the door. Just yesterday, I came home to find a couple of large boxes. One contained a range bag from Midway, some Tetra Gun Grease, and a few packs of Shoot N C targets. The other contained my two ammo cans (thanks guys!) from Sportsman's Friend. The day before it was a box with four 15 round mags for my new S&W 15-22. Last week I got a few shipments of ammo. (My UPS guy was totally hating me, I'm sure.) Right now the only thing in the pipeline is a case of shotgun shells bundled with an ammo can from Federal for my still to be acquired Mossberg 500.
  23. If you're going to need to go through the application process for another handgun permit, why not just pick up the 15-22 for now, then get the HG a few months from now? I just got a 15-22 last week, and I'm finding it to be lots of fun. The only negative I've found so far is that mine came with just one 10 round mag, which does not have the load assist button. So it's kind of a pain to load, and it's empty in a hurry. I ordered a few 15 round mags for it, so I'm hoping those will make things a lot easier. I should note that I already have a couple of HG's (G23 and G19), and will be picking up a Beretta 92A1 tomorrow (I hope). That still leaves me one HG permit to decide what to do with. How are you liking your S&W M&P?
  24. Good one! Thanks for posting again, as I had not seen it.
  25. Hey, a bit off-topic here, but why does ATF lump us with two vices (alcohol and tobacco), when firearms are a Constitutional right? No answer required, but it just seems wrong to me.
