  1. Just a few things to keep an eye on: ACR63 Urges President and Congress of United States to enact assault weapons ban including prohibition against large capacity ammunition feeding devices AR38 Condemns National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011's inherent violation of principal state's rights. AR84 Urges Congress to enact certain gun control measures. S810 Clarifies that "airsoft" guns are firearms A3645 Requires ammunition sales and transfers be conducted as face-to-face transactions. (No text available on the web site for this bill) A1673, S1278 Establishes "gun-free" and "weapon-free" zones around certain school and public properties. S1705 Permits municipalities to establish weapons free zones around schools and public facilities. I'm trying to keep an eye out for movement on these. Could not hurt to write your officials and let them know what you think!
  2. It has been said by NJ2AS that after they met with a few of our elected officials, hand written letters get the most attention because it shows somebody took the time to actually write a letter. Personally, I drafted one typed letter last night and sent it to 6 of our officials. I did sign the letters in ink and hand address the envelopes. They went in the mail today. I have seen responses sent back when people email their officials, but has anyone ever gotten a letter back via snail mail?
  3. Everyone, I highly suggest you take a few minutes and look at what the state senate and assembly have sitting in the law and public safety committee right now. Aside from a handful of positives for the 2A community, there are TONS of things sitting there to make 2A almost non existent in New Jersey. I prepared 6 letters tonight that I'm sending to our elected officials voicing my concerns. Please consider taking a minute and writing our senators, and the assembly/state senators to simply let them know you support 2A rights and do not agree with any restrictions. It may be a moot point considering the huge anti attitude in this state, but our voices need to be heard!
  4. Wow I go to work and come home to see this topic has grown into a big pile of infighting amongst 2A supporters! First off, I have no problem with all firearm transfers going through an FFL. I believe Delaware already does this, and the state set a $20 max charge so a FFL can't price gouge. Is it a pain in the ass depending on "the system"? Yes. If its part of a bill that's an alternative to loosing all semi auto guns in the US, is it bad? NO! If a bill was introduced that that said allowing access of firearms to a prohibited person carried a mandatory sentence of 5 years prison if the prohibited person easily acquired the guns because they were not secured, as an alternative to loosing all semi auto long guns or pistols in the US, is it bad? NO! Regardless of stance, something is going to be jammed down our throats by Washington and if we're too busy arguing over all or nothing, we have not a prayer in preventing a ban that could eventually snowball in to a 2A repeal when the politicians see the ban isn't preventing crime! We have to stand together and we have to be ready for some kind of compromise. Weather the compromise will mean no semi auto rifles or tougher background checks and owner accountability is up to us.
  5. Well that's part of the problem. We need to know if they were locked up or not. I have several gun owners in my family, and I can tell you non of us give out keys or combinations to any of our safes/gun cabinets. Not even to wives, mothers, brothers, or sisters. Personally, if I were in a situation where I lived with someone with a mental disorder, I would do my best to prevent them from having access. My ex was manic depressive bipolar and did attempt suecide by taking pain meds. I did not own firearms at the time, in part because I knew of her condition. That was my personal choice as to how to deal with the situation to prevent her from shooting herself. At the time, I just bought my first house and my daughter was an infant so life for me did not allow the time to go to the range, etc. Again, this was my personal choice and not what I recommend everyone in that situation does to deal with it. Without knowing the full story in CT, there is a huge question as to how he made access to the guns. We as gun owners have to face the reality that something is going to come out of this tragedy that will effect us all. I'm not saying we bow to restrictions, I'm saying we have to all be able to agree on something to bring to the table as an alternative to a ban on ownership of certain types of firearms. Any ban or restriction is ridiculous. We all know that nothing is going to stop a crazy person from carrying out an act of destruction if that's what their goal is. We also need to realize that the people in the middle see two extremes. They see gun owning nuts with houses full of guns, and they see anti gunners that want the second amendment repealed. We need to reach the middle and show people that responsible firearms owners are not extremists out to overthrow the government or shoot everyone they see!
  6. I second PK90. Was there yesterday and he had 4-5 on the wall.
  7. So after sifting through all kinds of headlines and social media posts, I have noticed that no one is writing or ranting about the idea of gun owner accountability. There is one glaring issue with this whole tragedy that's fairly obvious. If the shooters mother had her firearms secured to prevent access by her mentally disturbed son, non of this may have happened. Is anyone here opposed to supporting legislation that holds accountable a gun owner who does not secure their weapons? As responsible gun owners, we need to show the community that we are for responsibility and accountability. Hard core anti's will not settle for anything short of banning firearms no matter what, but perhaps we can reach more people in the middle if we push for better mental health checks and a law that holds a firearm owner accountable for allowing a prohibited persons access to guns. Thoughts?
  8. Like the OP said, nothing ever goes on down there. Guess why not get in on the action?
  9. M-Pro 7 with a brush or in the ultrasonic cleaner.
  10. A friend of mine is a retired CO. He's retired because a gorilla sized inmate hit him from behind during an altercation he and another guard were breaking up, herniating several discs in his back. While on the job, he had several confrontations off duty from guys who swore to "get him" when they got out. I can't speak as to how he treated the inmates, but my friend is a good guy, and I have yet to ever hear anyone talk bad about him. I met three of his former fellow CO's, and they all have back, neck, and joint issues, all under age 40. The plus side, plenty of range time and training, and you can carry off duty. No offense to anyone on the job, I respect the fact that you choose to do a job many people don't want, and give you credit for putting up with some of the lowest elements on earth, I really don't see any true benefit other than 25 years then out with a decent pension.
  11. Sounds like the neighborhood liberal was a bit ignorant. You gave him a venue to ask questions and possibly learn something about an item he fears. Instead it sounds like he chickened out!
  12. Man I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad day. Hope they catch the guy. I often wonder what these anti hunter types would say if all the seasons were closed and the animal populations skyrocketed. Bet they would change their tune waking up to a yard full of plants eaten by deer, trash cans all over the yard from the raccoons, and dogs/cats mauled by the coyotes!
  13. Yes. I use collector and that I'm a member of a shooting club. My municipality requires me to send the form right to NJSP and I've gotten the exemptions approved pretty fast. NJSP sends the approved forms over to my pd, then my pd calls me to pick up the permits and the exemption paperwork
  14. I would think there is a fine involved if charged and found guilty.
  15. Don't forget most towns have a no discharge ordinance. You could be legally carrying in your yard, but if the weapon is fired, you can be charged with a misdemeanor.
  16. This is just further documentation as to how far anti this state has become. All that's ever reported in the media is how bad guns are. The pro gun stories are far and few between. It's easy for every article like this one to immediately be taken as a call to ban something new.
  17. NJ2AS is making progress with meeting senators and assembly people to sit down and discuss NJ 2a issues. Recently the president had a sit down with Sen Van Drew, and there is a delegation of female members meeting with Linda Stedner on Dec 3. It's a slow moving process, but so far it has been receptive. Considering the elections are over for this year, and the elected officials are agreeing to have meetings with NJ2AS, I take it as a positive step.
  18. I heard he was only charged with a misdemeanor since the township has a no discharge ordinance.
  19. +100 I have heard from a lot of people with political connections that the hand written letters and phone calls carry the most weight. Faxes come in second. Anything that is a mass produced letter or petition gets the least attention. Too bad we are a society of convenience. I assume most people that would "sign" an online petition would not take time to hand write a letter.
  20. I think my iPhone autocorrect would explode if I tried typing that in. My word: asstastic!
  21. Have you seen this? http://www.clementscustomguns.com/rugerdarevolvers.html
  22. There seems to be a lot of chatter about handgun hunting with 10mm lately. A pretty nice alternative to .44 mag being the mule kick to the hand is much milder! For the humane kill, I say shot placement trumps hole size.
  23. Honestly, we can write, call, email, and fax out brains out. It won't make one bit of difference if the aides receiving the correspondence are programmed to ignore anything stating opposition to the order. Not to be a downer, but I have little faith in politicians listening to "we the people". Once they get into office, it's about their agenda, not ours.
