  1. Yay! Ordered 3, so I have something for now. I'll order more when the reinforced ones are released from Magpul.
  2. It was nice, but A LOT of overpriced stuff. Sorry, but $400 for a Mosin Nagant M44 is crazy. Even standard ones were priced up to $200. Nice selection, but nothing really caught my eye. Did grab some 15 rounders for my AR.
  3. Raptor... Standard MilSpec handle in comparison. Very happy with it.
  4. I'll take two... just to get by until the reinforced ones come out.
  5. Wallet... license, yes. FID, nope. I have no reason to carry that on my person at all times. And yes, I would gladly give $100 to an FFL that respects our 2nd Amendment rights rather than a company that makes people walk ammo to a register in a locked fish box that everyone stares at because it draws so much attention to you. Makes people that legally own/shoot guns look like criminals. Dick's can do whatever they want, but they lost a customer that buys A LOT of ammo and firearms pretty consistently. NJ has pretty restrictive laws regarding firearms... I'm not dealing with a company that puts their own restrictions down on an otherwise legal transfer. If I need to go to a larger store for shooting related stuff, I'll drive out to Cabelas rather than Dick's... and I have two within 20 minutes of my house.
  6. I refuse to go to Dick's anymore... New policy, FID info must match driver license EXACTLY. A guy was turned away because his license said Wanamassa. Ocean Township handles Wanamassa, so the FID said Ocean. Zip code and everything was the same, but Dick's will not transfer a gun due to that. The associate even suggested he get it fixed "so you never have an issue in the state." But that same guy was allowed to purchase ammo... because that really is logical. They even made people bring in passports to confirm names, since a middle initial might be present on one, but not the other (because you can't go by other points, such as date of birth). To be honest, I'll spend $100 more and go through my regular FFL rather then ever give my money to that company.
  7. Please let us know about those 15 round magazines... I definitely need a set of those for my WASR.
  8. I'm getting an SR1911... being I don't have one, and not interested in spending over $1,000 on a range gun. However, I picked up a Glock 30S first. I inspected it when it arrived, since I'm waiting on permits, but it is very nice.
  9. I considered getting my license, but I've seen way too many fatalities that I would ride a bike in this state. I helped my friend drop his bike off at Xtreme Machines, and you see some bad stuff in the back... like the bikes that go under tractor trailers. While I respect bikers, they do tend to come off like asses. A few weeks back, there was a ride that had to do with Sandy recovery (I looked it up after). Maybe 1,200 bikes were supposed to go down 138 (to about where it turns into 195), then head south on 34 towards Mantoloking. Someone screwed up, so they all made a U turn at the next exit, which is 547 in Howell. Smart way to do that would be hit the south 547 exit (they were heading west) and stay straight to go back east. DIDN'T DO THAT! They got off 547 north, cut over to the south side, then took that same exit back. For about 25 minutes, this group blocked one of the main routes to go over 195. Ok, crap happens. Yet, when people got annoyed, which is very understandable since we all pay to register out vehicles and thus have a right to use the road, they started cursing and flipping us off who were stuck. Once one did it, and those behind them saw, it was continuous. Yea, there are bad apples in every group, but it was way more than 1 out of 6 in that occurrence... and that was because the lead guy didn't know where he was going. Did people cut into the flow of bikes to continue on their way? Maybe six or so did, but I know the one behind me didn't because of how I stopped (no room for her to back up, either). So while I do give bikes plenty of space, a very good chunk of them do act like they are entitled, which just increases the animosity towards them.
  10. Being I had some time to look it over, since I'm still waiting on parts, it seems to be a good buy. Mine had a single hook trigger (ok pull), but all the important parts have matching numbers (bolt, carrier, receiver; I hear it is common on WASRs, but that is important for me). The biggest issue was the stock (mentioned above), being it was pressed into the receiver. I cut enough out to pop out the screw, but then I had to remove wood with a drill and a screwdriver/small hammer. HOLY CRAP! Other than that, no cleaning rod or kit came with mine. Not an issue, being I picked them up. No magazine, being a 30 rounder was supplied, so J&G didn't ship it. I have a few ten rounders, but hopefully someone starts pinning AK PMAGs to 15 rounds when they are released. I've seen similar (identical, actually) guns from local guys for around $1,200 (only difference is a ten rounder included), which I could not afford to get into a rifle like this. I have an AR, so the WASR is more of an added part of my collection (put it up there with a 1911, which I feel is something nice to own). Goes nice with my Yugo SKS and Garand. $600 is where I'm ok with investing in an AK that I may shoot a handful of times per year. I wouldn't even pay $1,000 for an Arsenal, being it puts too much of a strain on my ammo funds over the $600 WASR. For $420, I could get 1,400 rounds of non-corrosive for that.
  11. When Sandy hit, I was out of WiFi for two weeks... even then, my data was a little over 1GB (normal month is under 1GB). No tethering, and mostly connected to WiFi when being used (Optimum app does a good job). When I got the iPhone 5, I started using Maps more for directions, and still not a big jump. If I use FaceTime, it does rise, but I don't use it a lot, and when I do, I'm usually on WiFi. I had unlimited data on my iPhone 4 (Verizon), but didn't want to pay full price on a 64GB iPhone 5 to keep it. In regards to the original topic, I like iOS over Android. One guy at work is the complete opposite, and we joke with one another about it, but it comes down to personal preference.
  12. I actually just picked up the same gun yesterday... Identical to yours. Happy with it, except for the rear tang screw being seized up. Knew it was going to be a problem when I saw it marred up at the FFL, and after about an hour of trying to get it out, I'm planning on sawing the stock/screw off. I have two "new" screws on the way from Numrich, and already had a new stock set, so it isn't that bad. For the price, I don't care if I have to put a little work into it.
  13. The picture is sort of looking at the BHOA if you were looking down the barrel. To the rear, you see the rectangular block that has some finish worn off? There should be a finger coming off that, extending out into the magazine hole. That is engaged by the CMMG follower, and causes the bolt to lock back on the last round (the opposite side fits into the bolt release). Removing that allows for standard BDM magazines to function with the BHOA in place, but still allows for the bolt release to engage the BHOA. I run a BAD lever on my lower, so it makes it even easier to work. I did it with a pair of pliers (you can disassemble that part from the assembly) and a Dremel. I made it as smooth as possible, then did a coat of high temperature black paint (not that it makes a difference, but it was all I had). It will work as you mentioned, however, you do have to pull the charging hand back to lock the bolt to the rear (followers won't give the clearance to engage the stop). Shy of that, reloading a magazine is done as if you were firing a 5.56mm.
  14. I've been shooting a .44 Magnum since I was 12 years old... and probably loaded Specials in it for the first time maybe two years back (one box, which I'll probably never do again... cost is similar, but I'm a fan of the Magnum). Never had an issue but the unburnt powder hitting my face. I just find the .44 more accurate than the .357 I first started shooting (again, at 12; my father cut his hand open on the .44, and wanted to sell it). It was a 4" .357 compared to a 6" .44, but I never looked back. I only looked at a .357 when I was interested in the Coonan. My J-frame is a no-lock .38 +P. No issue shooting my dad's LCR with .357s (trigger is very different than my S&W), but S&W didn't have a no-lock .357... and I really wasn't looking at used.
  15. I was going to convert my old BDM magazines, but the feedlips cracked and I picked up some of those with the metal inserts... which do not work with the follower. I do run a BHOA, but it is more for manual function than anything else. The BDM follower holds the bolt to the rear, so I modified the BHOA by removing the finger that goes forward and is activated by the follower. I also had to fit it to my upper/lower, but now I can use the bolt release to lock the bolt back, reload, then release the bolt like a standard AR. Add in all the other CMMG upgrades, and my rifle functions pretty damn close to the traditional AR design.
  16. I definitely would get some USGI clips. They tend to work. I picked up 30 clips off eBay, and then sent them to CCR for cera-plate (similar to NP3). Cost me a little bit, but the slickness of the plating should work out well for feeding. They are also easy to clean, and pretty much indestructible. I picked up a Lithgow (Century built) Garand, which I'm going to be sending to Shuff's in the near future.
  17. Never was a fan of Glocks, so my last two polymer pistols were M&Ps. However, that 30S is on my list...
  18. I have a Golden Rod, as well as two desiccants (ones you put in the oven to recharge). My safe stays at around 30% RH. Really happy with it.
  19. If you want a compromise option, a Ruger single action revolver in .45 Colt... with an ACP conversion cylinder. I always wanted a single action revolver, but not a fan of .357 or even .45 Colt. Picked up a Vaquero Convertible from Davidson's, which is an exclusive from them (5.5" barrel, in stainless). With that, I can also shoot the same rounds that my .45 PX4 shoots (also a good gun). But if I want to push past ACP loads, there is an option for that, as well. Ruger does offer a .357 revolver with a 9mm cylinder, if you want even more versatility.
  20. I sent out a Beretta upper to be refinished, and tried to send it via a UPS Store. When I said what it was, this lady put on a nasty look and pointed to a paper... which was about 15 feet behind the counter, and had a small line highlighted. I asked her if it was SO important, why isn't it visible for customers to see. It states no firearms or ammo can be shipped through a UPS Store. When I mentioned it is not a firearm, she kept pointing to that paper and looking away. Last time I ever walked into a UPS Store...
  21. If I do my part, it is very good. I really don't keep major track of groups, but if I have to give a guess, I can easily do under 2" groups at 15 yards. I did pretty good in a fun shoot at SS a few years back. At that time, I had 200 rounds through the gun... but just got it back the same day from CCR (plated the metal, but I also had night sights added). I was actually shocked, being I didn't shoot the gun too much (was at CCR for two months), and I wasn't sure on the sights. My 9mm, which I shoot more, is ok with the 4" barrel. I have a 4.5" stainless barrel, which I do notice a little better accuracy... but it is a match barrel.
  22. Beretta PX4... standard magazine capacity is nine rounds, but they ship with one nine and one ten rounder. Very comfortable grip for a .45...
  23. The newer 9mm P229 magazines (E2) are not the same as the older P228/P229 9mm magazines. The older ones were different dimensions compared to .40 ones. With the new ones, SIG standardized on the .40 magazine well, so that it would be easier to produce guns. The E2 magazines, which fit in the P229-1 and M11-A1, are 15 rounders... but they gain the two rounds due to the changes in the magazine body design. MecGar 15 rounders, which were designed for the older 9mm frames, use a different follower design to gain the extra two rounds. It really was a stupid move for SIG, being there are SO many 9mm P228/P229 magazines out there. I am waiting on my P228, but I have no desire to look into any SIG with the newer magazine well. Unsure on how the 9mm P224 is designed, but if I cannot use the older magazines in that, I won't be picking one up.
  24. Wait until you purchase a gun through Davidson's and they try to add extra fees that aren't supposed to be added... then argue that they are right, until you physically show them the invoice on your phone.
  25. The 84 is a double stacked magazine and the 85 is single stacked... capacities are different. I know the 84 has a 13 round magazine. Think the 85 holds 8... but not 100% on it.
