  1. I just ran across a pretty cool video done by Tuffy Stone at this year's Jack. The Jack Daniels Invitational is one of the premier BBQ competitions, and probably the one hardest for a team to score an invitation. Best not to watch when you're hungry, there is some really mouth-watering food being prepared. The 2022 Jack Daniels Invitational An older, but very interesting write-up on the Jack was done by Harry Soo of Slap 'yo Daddy BBQ. It goes more into the whole Jack experience. https://www.slapyodaddybbq.com/2012/10/jack-daniels-invitational-lynchburg-tennessee-october-27-2012/

    Heavy cream

I virtually never buy the stuff--can't recall the last time, in fact--but my wife needed a bunch for a recipe so off I went to pick up a quart. No shortage of it at the local Acme, but it was $6.50 a quart! No idea what it was a year or two ago, but I was quite surprised by the current price.
  3. Assuming you are pulling a permit, the town inspector who will inspect the final installation may* be an excellent resource to talk you through what needs to be done. Surest way to make certain that it will pass inspection. The name may be available on the town website, or you can get it through the building department. *I say 'may' because most of the inspectors I've dealt with have been very helpful, but some are quite obstructionist when it comes to homeowners doing their own work. Hope you have one of the good ones.
  4. I didn't get to listen to the proceedings, but apparently a highlight was when Assemblyman Brian Bergen, R-Morris, having had several lines of questioning stonewalled by bill sponsor Danielsen, said on mic: “God. he’s such an a**hole.” After a reporter tweeted the comment, Bergen replied: “I did say it. And I meant it.” I'm proud to have Bergen representing me in Morris county. https://www.nj.com/politics/2022/11/tough-nj-concealed-carry-gun-proposal-moves-closer-to-law-after-fierce-debate-at-statehouse.html
  5. Thanks for the update. I think we're on about the same timeline...not looking good before the holidays, since everything will get even slower once mid-Dec rolls around. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.
  6. I believe they are scheduled to end on Dec 31, although last year the session carried over into early Jan. To answer @Mike77's question, if the bill isn't passed in identical form by the assembly and the senate, I believe it will have to be re-introduced next year. The dem's probably have a bot set up to mindlessly re-submit time and again. In this case, the bot may be the actual human sponsor of the bill.
  7. Still to come, a vote by the state senate. Calls and emails may help there, maybe not by stopping it, but at least for sending it back for significant changes. Once past the senate, it needs the governor's signature, and there is no stopping that, this bill is governor gopher's wet dream. I assume the request for an injunction will be ready to file immediately after bucktooth signs, potentially granting us relief while the court challenge is underway.

Caroline Ellison, another of the children in a top management position, recently tweeted about the wonders of regular amphetamine use. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/caroline-ellison-one-central-figures-182540293.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall

At least Holmes is going to prison, probably. It will be interesting to see what eventually happens to the FTX 'management'. Theranos was loudly and often declared a fraud by the scientific and medical device community for almost the entire time they were in existence. A lot of people (and Walgreens) could have avoided the crash by doing even a little due diligence.
  10. This is why most of Oregon--by land area, not population--has voted to secede and join Idaho. There are a few reasons that is highly unlikely to happen, but those ballot initiatives were meant to at least send a message to Portland and the other liberal cities. Who don't care, as long as the tax dollars keep rolling in from the counties with no real voice in the state government.
  11. I've emailed the entire assembly. The ANJRPC email, and website, makes it easy! Carpet bomb them with email!!!
  12. We hosted a holiday party for my SCUBA club yesterday. We made it a pre-Thanksgiving dinner, and smoked the turkey, using both Zatarains Cajun injection and Zatarains Cajun rub on the bird. It was a 12 lb bird, smoked about 6 hours over apple and a bit of pecan wood. It turned out very nice, though a little salty since the only turkey I could find had been pre-injected with broth/table salt/sodium phosphate (most commercial turkeys are). I skipped the brine for that reason, but it would have been even better without the commercial pre-injection. I tried a new gravy recipe from the "Meathead--the science of great BBQ and grilling" cookbook, and we really liked it. You fill a pan with chicken broth, cut up onion, carrots, celery, lots of fresh and dried herbs, and the various bits trimmed from the turkey. The pan goes on the lower rack, the turkey above it, for four hours, to cook the pan contents and catch the turkey drippings. The the broth gets filtered off, defatted, and boiled on the stove to concentrate it a bit. It's kept thin, so it can be lightly spooned over the turkey after it is carved and the meat soaks up the flavor and moisture. I'll be doing that again.
  13. We’ve been looking at homes in northern Idaho, and I’m surprised that quite a number have electric heat, even that close to Canada. But Idaho has a lot of cheap hydro power, rates most places are no more than 0.10/KWH.
  14. Gonna be a long winter. Yesterday's fuel oil delivery was $5.82 a gallon, and we've got a big, old drafty house. The oil company estimates about $8,000 for the year, based on past consumption (heat, and year-round hot water). I've spent years adding insulation, weatherstripping, programmable thermostats, and tight-fitting cellular shades that stay down all winter. Not much more I can do to make things better prior to a planned move out of state next year. The thermostats seem glitchy. They seem to adjust up slightly whenever my wife walks by one.
  15. This prompted me to look. My money order was also cashed, in Morris County. Sometime between Oct 25 (last time I looked) and today. My application was only complete, with fingerprints, on Sept 22.
  16. I'm not clear on how that would apply. Any AR could accept 30 round (standard capacity) mags at time of manufacture. If bought in NJ, that gun may have come with NJ legal 10 round mags, perhaps as supplied by the manufacturer for guns destined for NJ, or swapped out by the FFL prior to purchase, or it may have come with no mags at all, and 10 rounders were bought here. I don't think that means all ARs would not fall under that ban. Am I missing something?
  17. You may need to do some other modifications in addition to the lock. By-pass doors easily come off the rails if lifted up, and the guide that is often fastened to the floor is usually pretty flimsy as well. Even with the two doors locked together, unless you harden the installation it would still be easy to get in.
  18. They miscalculated. That was supposed to be the plan for Wednesday.
