  1. I can't speak for Midway, but I just placed an order with Sportsman Outdoor Superstore for a gun with 16 round mags (and a couple extra mags as well). They sent me an e-mail stating they either they would need to exclude the mags, or I could cancel the order. I called them up and explained that it would be going to an FFL (Monmouth Arms) that would be modifying the mags to be NJ compliant. They said it was fine, but they'd need to talk to him to confirm. I gave them Steven's number, and I don't know what they discussed, but all I know is I now have a Fedex tracking #!
  2. You should check out the fresh minty smell of froglube. I'm tempted to try brushing my teeth with it!
  3. took the Gun for Hire class on Aug 29, received it Oct 5 (5 weeks, 2 days).
  4. How about an "almost got my first gun story"? I had just graduated college and moved to Los Angeles for a job and lived with my uncle. I noticed that there was a gun store just a couple blocks away. A childhood fan of the Mad Max movies, I had always wanted a double-barrel sawed-off shotgun with a pistol grip. But having learned that they were illegal, I settled on the next closest thing, a 12-gauge Mossberg cruiser with a pistol grip. Now I was making a pittance at my job and coudn't afford to buy it outright and just put it on layaway. A few months later I found myself short on money. And as I thought about it, I didn't have the balls to ask my uncle (not to mention his wife, who wasn't that thrilled with me staying with them) for permission to bring a shotgun into his house. I thought I'd just cancel the layaway and get my money back. Naturally, they refused a refund, but offered me the same credit on anything in the store. I settled on a stun gun, but the only one I could afford was called a "lady thunder". I balked at buying something with such a name, but at least it wasn't pink, and the store owner convinced me that someone I'm stunning with 75,000 volts isn't going to care what it's called. So I bought it, forgot about it, and it eventually threw it away after I found it non-functional after the battery had leaked.
  5. I recall seeing a link here a while back to pre-purchase his book in e-book form. It was less than $10, thought "why the heck not?" and got it.
  6. RTSP pins handgun mags as well.
  7. Can somewhat clarify a few terms for me? Condition 1: bullet chambered? Israeli method: trained with carrying not chambered, but racking when drawing? Condition 3: I assume a combination of not chambered and something else?
  8. Since early August, I've been going about 3-4 times a week. Unfortunately I'm not sure if my wallet can take it much longer Edit: Woodland Park Range is 10-15 minutes away, depending on traffic. I generally shoot about 100-150 rounds of 9mm per session. Looking at other people's shooting habits, the one thing that surprises me is how infrequently people tend to shoot. But I guess I'm just shooting more often because I'm a newbie and the novelty is still there and lucky enough to be within relatively short distance from a range.
  9. I'm curious how they were able to get those statistics. "Hi, we're doing a survey and noticed you sold a weapon online. Did you completely disregard Federal firearm transfer laws? Yes, you say? Okay, thanks and have a nice day". "Hi, we're doing a survey and we're wondering if you've purchased a firearm online despite not being legally allowed to do so? Yes? You have a murder conviction on your record, but the guy and his family had it coming to them? That's okay sir, we don't need an explanation, but thanks for your time."
  10. Thanks Pizza Bob. I had seen your posts (thanks for the detailed review btw), but it's a good thing I reread them. I was thinking that versions with the cross-pin through the rear of the slide were already the latest iteration, but didn't realize that those were still subject to extractor issues. Definitely something to keep in mind.
  11. Despite never actually having fired one (only dry-fire), I'm finding myself extremely attracted to Steyr handguns for some reason, specifically the M9-A1. So much so that I'm prepared to pull the trigger on one (pun intended) when my permits come through. Why? Rave reviews, I love the way it looks, and very uncommon (which is a reason why I'm unlikely to be a Glock owner in the near future). Any reason why I should rethink this? Or better yet, anyone willing to let me try theirs out in exchange for a box of ammo I don't care about the lack of aftermarket support, though my one concern is that almost every youtube video I see of the gun shows brass flying straight into the shooter's face. My alternative is a Walther PPQ.
  12. Additionally, don't lowers have to be shipped to an NJ FFL for transfer, similar to a handgun?
  13. I had quit smoking about 10 years ago, but spent the following 9 years addicted to nicotine gun/mints. I was just able to quit those November last year.
  14. If I can get the following upper for $600 shipped, any thoughts? Claim is approximately 250 round count. I'm really set on a 14.5" barrel with mid-length gas system. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-EAG-HS-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-package-p/bcm-uh-eag2-hs.htm The original BCM bcg has been swapped out for a PSA bcg. BCM® 14.5" Standard Mid Length (LIGHT WEIGHT) Gas Barrel BCM Gunfigher Comp Mod 1 (and yes, I saw the recent thread on uncertain legality) PSA full auto BCG Badger charging handle Magpul MOE Black Handguards Impact Weapon Components Sling Mount Magpul MBUS Sight Mossie light mount
  15. I don't know the policy at Heritage Guild. I know at RTSP, they let you switch guns as long as it's the same caliber, but if you switch to a different caliber, they charge an additional gun rental fee. Woodland Park charges a separate gun rental fee for each gun regardless, though they'll be understanding if you fire a few shots on a rental and hate it for whatever reason.
  16. Not sure how convenient it is to you, but Heritage Guild in Easton, PA has bunch of H&K handguns to try out. As everyone else has said, you can't go wrong with RTSP or Woodland Park. Just keep in mind that RTSP has long waits on weekends, but hopefully that will change with their expansion.
  17. Are you sure there's no law, because nearly every shop I've been to seems to think otherwise. And I don't think it's just laziness. I was at your home range, RTSP, and a fellow (I think Evan?) spent a lot of time with me talking about guns and was well-aware that I didn't have an FID/P2P. He suggested one gun and took it out of the case for me to take a look at, but wouldn't let me handle it. It was so annoying that I could fondle all of their rental guns to my hearts content, but not the new guns.
  18. I was at the GFH Utah CCW class last week, and one guy called out another for wearing an Obama t-shirt to the class. You can tell the tension level in the room turned up a notch, and I thought things were going to get ugly. I wonder what would have happened if Anthony had noticed...
  19. LOL, it is. An H&K P30 plastic see-through plastic airsoft gun, to be exact. I bought it to practice my grip and sight picture. I used to dry fire it but stopped when I realized it was in no way similar to a real firearm.
  20. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=362693565 Just checking if this is a good deal. I'm a bit wary of buying second hand and I really don't need to be spending the money so I'm sort of hoping someone else will bid it up so that I can turn away.
  21. The Hillside place also offers a 4 hour rate for $80. They also charge a "damage waiver fee" and tax. 4 hours is $97 out the door, while full day rental is $146. I found it extremely hard to maneuver on my narrow stairs with multiple 180 degree turn landings. It looked so damn easy on those youtube videos...
  22. I'm jealous..five weeks in today, and suspect much more than three to go. Congrats!
  23. Racial profiling at its worst What if the alleged robber just happened to be speaking a foreign language and was asking "Can you recommend a good place to get this knife sharpened?", and it just so happens to sound a lot like "Give me your money!" in English.
  24. tinman, hal, I'm not disagreeing with either of you, just letting you know that if you're expecting to get these items tax free from Dicks, you aren't going to be able to do so without a fight. Before I went on with buying the safe, I wanted to confirm the tax-free status with the sales associate, but he told me right off the bat that he had no idea. He then called a supervisor/manager who told me the above, and was specific on the exclusion of pistol boxes and cabinets. Now to me, this doesn't make sense since most every pistol box and gun cabinet I've seen has mounting holes, and I'd be surprised if the tax code went on as to specify a minimum wall thickness or locking mechanism. I assume the whole point of the tax free status is to encourage people to lock up their guns. But as soon as he confirmed that my particular purchase was tax free, I didn't feel like arguing about it.
