  1. Hoboken resident here, grew up in Bergen county. Montclair train is fast and direct, with direct being the most important part. You will lose time with transfers. Where are your offices in the city? This will make a difference.
  2. I have 9 bikes of varying flavors and second the cheap Honda suggestion. However, my experience is that a midsize cruiser like a Honda Shadow 750cc is better. If you commute, get a big honking crash bar and some metal saddlebag cans. They may just save your legs when you eventually lowside. Also, get one of these suits http://www.aerostich.com/suits/one-piece-suits Lastly, reflect on this before you make your decision: "There are old riders, and then there are bold riders."
  3. Just got 3 permits from Hoboken PD after 85 days. Here are the details. 2/3 - applied for 2 permits 2/23 - employer received firearms letter 2/27 - confirmed all reference/employer letters received by HPD 3/4 - since they were taking so long, I upped from 2 to 3 permits. Was told "Juat waiting on lieutenant to review" 3/24 - called to check, permits not ready 4/9 - called to check, noting it was now beyond 60 days. Permits not ready, was told "should be a week or two" 4/28 - receive the call that permits are ready 4/29 - picked up permits, dated 4/17 (so they held them a week!) The officer who gave me the permits was quite nice, so I subtly mentioned to her "you know, I applied for these all the way back in February." She frankly told me that (1) it's a part-time duty that gets placed on the backburner, (2) a new supervising lieutenant and new chief also added to general delays. I offered to volunteer as "an overgrown Eagle Scout who reads law all day" and that I'd be happy to help out the department in the future in some capacity. She said she'll mention it to the lieutenant
  4. My father and I just took the rifle/musket class yesterday at Appalachian Bowmen Barn. We are both old hats at outdoors and marksmanship, but basically novice to hunting. The course was Great and the guys running it from NJF&W were simply top notch.
  5. This should be titled "short hills murder accomplice" instead of "carjacking suspect". Disgusting.
  6. I shot an O/U in 12ga one outing. It had no ejectors and definitely lacked that finished feel of a Beretta, but it had a nice trigger and shot straighter than I could aim.
  7. I like this! I'm still a greenhorn in this sport, but an old hack at making things. Your pictures inspire my confidence to do the same thing. I could be reading it wrong, but he might be implying that "you didn't make that".
  8. Just to share, I had a near issue! I have an old USGI mag for my 92FS with a metal follower. I lost count but suddenly realized it was able to squeak a 16th round inside. I quickly tested and confirmed it would not load into the pistol against a closed action. I get the tendency to keep a tin foil hat on with this stuff, but a mag also be able to feed to be deemed illegal. Looks like I'm safe and sound.
  9. Standford, and I understood it was on Hudson County...
  10. Agreed. Not to further derail the question, I'll chime in and TRY to relate this to transporting. To me, a car decal is akin to wearing a "back off, I've got a gun" shirt with a picture of Yosemite Sam on the back. Is that something you need to advertise if you're a CCW holder?? Don't even get me started with the "baby on board" window things (aka, the "rob me first" signs)... It's been said, but either (A) read the law or (B) ask a lawyer. Law interpretations from gun store salesmen, cops, range officers, and Internet forum dwellers like me are not defensible and rife with opinion.
  11. I love going to Caso's. Lisa is the nicest person behind a counter I ever met. I just wish they would sell used guns too. Had good experiences at Meltzer's as well, though I don't feel obligated to buy something if I think it's overpriced. That said, I think I got a few good deals there. Ramsey Outdoor in Ramsey is the only experience that I did not like. I bought 2 guns from them, here's the story. 1- I saw a used Beretta 92 Centurion. They did not know what it was, but fine, no big deal. Since it was a used 20yr old gun I asked to inspect the slide and locking block before buying. The salesman outright refused and cited story policy on not pulling guns apart (even used guns). Pulling the slide off a 92 is he simplest task, so it spoke more about his general knowledge than anything. I really wanted the gun so I called the manager the next day to say how disappointed I was. He was quietly understanding of the situation and let me inspect the gun, and even agreed to knock $25 off when I pressed it. All in, my faith was restored I was happy with the deal. 2- That same time, I decided to also buy a new Beretta Bobcat in 22lr. It was the floor model, but I paid in full and had them put it in the safe while I waited for my permits. I picked up the 92 above, then the Bobcat a month later. When I came to get the Bobcat, they pulled out an empty case from the safe. I looked down and saw the gun I had paid for was BACK IN THE CASE! Lord knows how many people dry fired my poor 22 over those 3 months while I was waiting for my permits and OGAM until I could pick it up. Not them worst stories, but just a little "buyer beware" reminder.
  12. Fancy! Ghost grips do have a nice look. Did you build this to be a complete INOX? Is the mag floor plate the $15 swap on ebay? 100% steel parts... not a bad deal at all.
  13. Ha, I assume you're referring to me with the SSN. I'm most certainly not from Honduras... One of Hoboken's extra form's used to ask for an HR contact or a manager, so I chose to put down my manager. This time, I declined to fill out this extra form. The letter still came but it was just randomly addressed to my company. Our mail room chief opened the letter to see who to give it to and handed it to me (!) saying, "I think this is for you." My manager got a kick out of it somehow. The majority of my company is Japanese ex-pats, so they just think I'm the reincarnation of John Wayne anyway. I'm just lucky to work with good people.
  14. Hoboken contacted my employer with a standard form that requests to verify my address and SSN. The form very clearly states that I am seeking a P2P or FPID, then asks if there is any reason I should not be able to purchase a firearm. Naturally, my boss does not know my SSN. I saw that it was mailed 2 weeks after I submitted the forms, so at least that's not so bad.

  16. UPDATE: zipped through 100rds with zero failures. Happy shooting!
  17. I saw this somewhere else and got a box. It shipped in the original manufacturer box which was clearly labeled "CARTRIDGES - SMALL ARMS". I live in an apartment building, so I hope my neighbors don't get the wrong idea! EDIT: it also arrived in 2-3 days, as promised.
  18. Wow! I went to the range on Sunday as well, but I shoot indoors and my pistol bag goes into the trunk area of my jeep. Makes sense that a pricey pistol would fail in subprime conditions. Tighter machining tolerances are not really a "combat conditions" thing...
  19. Yeah, I, with I am not a lawyer, but I do play one on TV. Here goes: I'm with you in this one. Specificity in the US BOR 1-9 should, by virtue of the 10amdt, provide sufficient exclusivity that federal law is the rule here. The trick is that NJ has satisfied the US Supreme Court that it is in compliance with the 2a. The argument should need to go back up to a "case law IS law" approach wherein these independent circuit decisions are applied uniformly across all regions. Is Miranda different in certain states? Can police quarter in certain states without congressional action?
  20. I dropped off a P2P application today in Hoboken. The officer was very friendly and approachable. He did hand me the same 3 additional forms as before, but I politely declined and explained they are illegal for me to fill out.
  21. Weekday RO is a solid dude. I've always seen him help new shooters. The weekends are when things go downhill. Overcrowded and plenty of yahoos with zero experience or training. As such, the ROs get a bit testy. Still, $10 is a fair price for what you get.
  22. I've had one of these clunkers for a while. Took a lot of ammo before it started to break int. Would be a nice DA/SA training gun if it wasn't so hard to squeeze. What i heard was it was a training gun designed for Israel (?) and intentionally has a heavy combat trigger. Also, it's picky with ammo because it was designed to fire hotter 22lr so as to better simulate stronger recoil. I guess that makes sense, but who knows. I did a LOT of research on fixing this gun. Even contacted GSG about a replacement barrel to convert my Sport into a standard version. Yes, that's right... it's not make by Sig. There is no Sig Sauer detail and love, and the craftsmanship shows. PD2k found the best info. I haven't done it, but I hear that removing the mag disconnect will remove 1-2lbs of trigger pull.
  23. 38 Special lite. I have a SP101 ready with Hornady Critical Defense Lite. It's easy for me or the wife to put 5 rounds where intended.
