  1. Negative on the fast track. I'm guessing this will end up in several committees. I'm not an attorney, but I believe there may be constitutionality problems with this bill, specifically regarding states' rights.
  2. Two things. 1) If I had kids (thank god I don't), or if I knew there would be kids in the house, I would not be keeping any firearms/ammo unsecured. Might not be today, or tomorrow, but eventually a kid will find that gun and shoot himself or somebody else. 2) It's none of my business, but...why are you letting your wife tell you what to do? Tell her to get back in the kitchen! (semi-kidding)
  3. Still waiting on mine. Been about four weeks now, so I'm guessing it'll be another four weeks.
  4. Even the Force couldn't save her from the drugs, the booze, and the bipolar disorder.
  5. http://www.donath.org/Rants/TheFourRules/ Go here ^ first. All other bad habits are minor compared to making a habit of committing any of the cardinal sins of handling a firearm.
  6. Fitting and building a good 1911 is a serious undertaking. I've not done it, but owning one and working on it myself has provided me with just enough experience and knowledge to be dangerous. It is not a casual project. I might be mistaken on this, but my limited understanding is that building an AK, like building a decent 1911, is a serious endeavor. I have never dabbled with the AK platform, as much as I'd like to eventually. They are neat. Building an AR15 is much more casual; there is no shortage of bubbas on Youtube who can show you how to put one together. Given the correct tools and an internet connection, a chimpanzee with a learning disability could build a safe and serviceable AR15 by the end of the weekend. You could also build a Garand. I built mine on a 1942 barreled receiver, and it was not particularly difficult. More complicated than an AR15, but not as time consuming as putting together a good 1911 from scratch. Either way, building your own firearm is a really rewarding endeavor. You will learn much, and you can't put a price on knowledge. Well, you can...but you get my point.
  7. At some point in the future, I'm more than likely going to sell my Springfield M1A in lieu of building one from USGI parts on a forged and milled LRB receiver, for that very reason. The Springfield is a fun rifle, and it's good for getting a feel for the M14, but the tolerances are rather sloppy (although not as sloppy as a Norinco), and everything except the bolt and barrel is cast. ::barf:: For me, it's not so much an issue of materials (although that does matter to a degree with regard to Mr. Garand's receiver design) as it is about putting together a firearm that is legitimate with respect to military specifications. Obviously an M14 receiver is a big no-no, but one can put together an M14 from USGI parts and a great receiver made to military specs, such as LRB. That's as close as one can get without dropping many thousands of dollars on a "real" M14. With regard to a billet AR15, I'm still left thinking...why? Unlike the M14 and the M1, where the heel of the receiver is utilized as a means to stop the rearward travel of the bolt during recoil, the receivers on an AR15 don't really take any impact. All the gas is confined to the barrel, chamber, bolt carrier group, and gas tube, and bolt carrier group just slides around in there without hitting anything. My theory remains that the billet receivers are designed to extract extra revenue from those unfortunate folks who haven't really thought this through.
  8. I don't really understand the point of the billet receivers (other than marketing, obviously). Forged and milled aircraft aluminum isn't exactly failing to get the job done with regard to containing that massive, ultra-powerful .223 round (lol).
  9. I bet that Glock 35 feels wonderful in the hand. I sold my Glock 21 only because it was like holding a slippery 2 x 4.
  10. Yes sir. I was doing 5 mph under the speed limit, mile marker 56.5 on the parkway southbound. Slush everywhere on the highway, no plows or salt trucks in sight. Was minding my own business, when my back tire hit a slush pile, sending the truck into a fishtail. Collided with the guard rail, which then sent the truck rolling and sliding on its roof until stopping in the left shoulder. I cut the seat belt off, and crawled out the tailgate. Trooper told me I'm a dead man walking. He didn't write me a ticket (not other vehicles involved). Nice guy, out of the Galloway barracks.
  11. This is why the girlfriend and I opted for two cats instead. I love all animals, but the cats are largely self sufficient, and....they don't bark. Ahhh...the silence is wonderful.
  12. Negative. Managed to walk away relatively unscathed. The expected ouchies, but nothing busted. My Carhartt jacket prevented the glass from getting to my vitals.
  13. I had a fun day on my way to work on Saturday morning. I cut the seat belt and climbed out the tailgate.
  14. Best dog I ever had was a husky/german shepherd mix. Frighteningly intelligent, disciplined, and loyal. Sometimes I'd catch her doing calculus in her spare time.
  15. Check local news for incidents of successful self-defense with a firearm. The major media outlets only cover tragedies, because that's what sells, and their content is primarily determined by ratings and ad revenue. They couldn't care less about a guy who lawfully reduced an attacker.
  16. Big shout-out to Mike at Ocean Armory in Manahawkin. Best transfer price I've encountered, and a hell of a good guy. Responds to emails instantly, too. Highly highly highly recommended. I won't go anywhere else.
  17. Permanent change will occur in this state when more pro-2A voters show up on election day than anti-2A voters. Seeing as how that obviously isn't happening for whatever reason(s), the next best thing is Trump/Congress/SCOTUS. Good things *might* happen for New Jersey shooters. Maybe. Kind of. Potentially. Theoretically.
  18. True, Trump could veto much of anything Democrats send to his desk. But if they win at least a chamber in two years, you can say goodbye to any further expansions of gun rights beyond executive orders, which aren't particularly effective.
  19. Eh, technically we have at least 2 years with a GOP-controlled Congress. After that, all bets are off when the Democrats get another shot at taking a chamber or two.
  20. PDM is correct. The Hudson bill allows a CCW license holder to carry in any state, EXCEPT their home state, unless their license was issued by their home state. The legal jargon is pretty clear in this regard. I believe this is a means to avoid violating a state's right to govern its own residents. In other words, the Hudson bill does nothing for NJ residents who want to carry in NJ. All that being said, Trump getting elected was a huge step forward for gun rights, even in NJ. What NJ shooters really need is a lawsuit, or series of lawsuits, to make their way to a pro-2A SCOTUS. Getting to that point is a long and arduous journey, but I think the passage of any reciprocity bill would accelerate that process. In my opinion, the exclusion of a pool of law-abiding citizens from this legislation simply because they live in a particular set of states is something that would be mercilessly attacked and rectified. One can hope, as long as one remains realistic.
  21. Pony up the coin and get yourself a Dan Wesson. Frames and slides are forged, and no MIM/cast parts.
  22. Trump is a native New Yorker. He is intimately aware of the issues surrounding the 2A in New York and across the river here in Jersey. My guess is that if he really intends on going all the way with a reciprocity bill, he will have us in mind when it hits his desk for a signature or a veto. The bill needs to explicitly state that a concealed carry license issued by any state, to a resident or non-resident of that state, must be honored by every state, including the permit holder's state of residence. In effect, this would constitute a federally-issued national CCW license, akin to a national driver's license.
  23. PDM is 100% correct on this. The Hudson bill does nothing for NJ residents who do not possess a NJ CCW license.
  24. For in-home self defense, my first choice is the 12 gauge. But again, I feel as though my original comment threw the thread off topic, which was not my intent. My apologies to the OP.
  25. Does he keep regular business hours? Or is he only by appointment? That's a great transfer fee.
