nickd308 0 Posted June 17, 2009 Now i know i cant own a genuine "US M1 Carbine" but i was curious if there were any variants not described as such and if so, are they legal? (i.e. Ak-47=illegal, Saiga=legal)

Mauser88 0 Posted June 17, 2009 Technically yes. There are one or two variations NOT specifically marked M1 CARBINE. Since they are banned by name, not type the variation would be legal under the rule of law. The problem is finding a NJ FFL to transfer you one. I haven't found one yet who will take the chance. PK90 3,570 Posted June 17, 2009 What two? Plainfield Machine Company Carbine and ?? Actually, no carbine is marked "M1 Carbine". Most are marked "US CARBINE" and "CAL. 30 M1". The NJ AWB says "M1 carbine type", so...just like "Avtomat Kalashnikov type" firearms, i.e. Saigas, SARs, etc... they are legal in a neutered configuration. ETA: I was even told by a trooper from the firearms unit that he did not see why the carbine would not be legal in a neutered state.
Fishpaw 17 Posted June 17, 2009 Is anyone selling neutered M1s? and just how would you neuter it......They dont have a pistol grip, or folding stock (in regular config), or a flash hider, so the bayo lug should be fine as the only "evil" feature....
