gunforhire 826 Posted January 3, 2010 Hello my fellow forum members. It has come to my attention that there is a school in NJ that is advertising Utah non resident CCW classes and they are telling the students they can use the NRA Cert they give them as training proof. This is incorrect. In order to obtain the UT CCW you must take a course from a certified UT instructor who has gone to UT to become an Instructor. That is who teaches the course at my school, a certified UT Instructor. Please make sure you get all of the facts before you pay. Happy New Year. Melgamatic 66 Posted January 3, 2010 This seems to have that problem, but I'm not sure.... https://www.njfirearms.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage-ask.tpl&product_id=65&category_id=3&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=109&vmcchk=1&Itemid=
Utah CCW Instructor 0 Posted January 4, 2010 Indeed Anthony is correct. You must take the 4 hour UT class to apply for the UT permit. The curriculum is set in stone by the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification. I am a certified instructor, and have taught courses in NY and NJ on numerous occassions. Larain60 1 Posted January 4, 2010 I agree with Anthony. However, Florida will accept the Utah course certification as proof of firearms safety for a FL CCW... but as pointed out above the UT course must be taught by a UT certified instructor. Also just a note fingerprints for Florida must be done by a LEO and signed by them... I had mine done and bounced b/c a non-LEO did them. Didnt matter a few days after I got the deficiency notice I was in FL and got printed there in the livescan system (preplanned vacation).
Genewarper111 18 Posted February 2, 2010 ^^^ Anthony is indeed correct and I too would be cautious regarding an "instructor" that misses such a key point. A comment on FL - I was told that the UT training would be acceptable, but in fact they rejected my application on that basis and I had to send my NRA "Personal Protection in the Home" certificate (taught by Anthony). So, there may be some discretion/ignorance at the level of the FL people. Just saying. Happy shooting! Best G
NJ609 22 Posted February 2, 2010 I just avoid such issues by taking my training with Anthony and his group at GFH.
