Scoped SKS

Recommended Posts

Ok sports fans I want to put a scope on my SKS. Yah I coulda/shoulda/woulda bought an M1 or Mini 30 but I didn't. Turns out the SKS is quite fun.

1. I read that a scope on the receiver cover is pretty unstable. Constant re-zeroing. Yes? No?

2. I can exchange the gas tube for one with a mount. So then what?

----- a pistol scope with long eye relief?

----- a red dot scope??

Any good experience or ideas out there. Thanks.

I have seen mounts drilled into the wood on the side of the receiver on both AKs and SKS. If you don't mind butchering the wood a little, it has to be a lot more stable than mounting on the top action cover like the plastic furniture Zastava PAPs.

I have a Scoped SKS, it has the receiver mount and it does suck. Zero doesn't move a whole lot but you will have to re-zero it from time to time. I have to say it did help me learn how zero in a scope. i was going to get a side mount but it would have cost more then the rifle costs with gunsmithing fees.

Check out: http://scoutscopes.com/index.html

A really good independent review of the SKS Scout Scope Mount with installation pictures and a range review.

I'd like to get an SKS one of these days, and the scout scope is something I will definitely look into.

after i shot martins sks i was back hooked into guns went out bought a sks, same stock kit as martins and receiver mount but i didn't like the red dot shooting at 50 100 yards so i opted for a tradition 4x scope and i used and bayonet mounted bipod (not barrel clamp) and i did tapco 15 round mag(wouldn't recommend that mod pain in the ass to reload) but i have never lost zero even after several cleanings removing the receiver
