Malsua 1,422 Posted May 30, 2010 Has anyone used these 15 dollar NCSTAR scopes? I need something that is useful to about 15-20 yards worst case, most likely about 25 feet. This is for use with on a .22. It's not for me. http://cgi.ebay.com/NCSTAR-4X20-HUNTING ... 35a9a4a3b7 I realize it's junk...but will hold any kind of zero from one day to the next? Someone I know has a groundhog problem in garden center and asked me to see about a cheap scope. Trying to keep it under $50. Alternatively, if anyone bought one of these junkers and replaced it with a real optic and wants to pawn off the marginal junk, I'm entertaining offers. MedicYeti 96 Posted May 30, 2010 I have an nc star on one of my 10-22's and it works fine out to 100 yards. I have had problems with it on guns with recoil but the 22 is fine.

Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted May 30, 2010 to give you a few more options Tasco .22 Riflescope Built especially for rimfire rifles, the .22 Rifle is the perfect choice for short-range shooting action. 50-yd. parallax. Interesting that Tasco would stipulate the above. The difference between quality RF and CF scopes is usually where the parallax is set. CF scopes with non-adjustable parallax are usually set at 50 to 100 yards, while RF scopes are set at 25 yards. Malsua 1,422 Posted May 30, 2010 I've always operated by two principles - You get what you pay for; and: Buy quality and only cry once. The last time this particular .22 rifle was shot was probably during Carter's term. After this particular hog menace is eliminated, it probably wont get fired again. These particular animals have evaded live traps, poisons, snares, filling the holes with water, dirt and gravel. No explosives yet...that comes after the .22. I considered mounting one of my good scopes on this temporarily but figured if I could get away with something cheap that can last a sighting in and probably 2-3 shots after that, it's good enough. I'm going to run out to Dick's down here in Cherry Hill and see if anything cheap is on the shelf.
Shane45 807 Posted May 30, 2010 The only "cheap" scope that I know of that has a rock solid reputation is the Bushnell Elite 3200 fixed 10X.
Malsua 1,422 Posted May 30, 2010 Bought a Gamo cheapy from Dicks for $32.09 out the door. Mounted it and it's not horrendous, actually not bad really. Will do just fine for the stated purpose.
