Arpaio raid on Tempe coat store nets 3 suspected illegal immigrants

Three suspected illegal immigrants were arrested at the Burlington Coat Factory in Tempe on Thursday night after a raid by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators served a search warrant on the Arizona Mills shop off Interstate 10 and U.S. 60 around 7 p.m. after receiving a tip from a manager at the store that as many as 10 workers might have been using stolen identities, officials said.

Deputies compared Social Security information with other forms of identification prior to the raid and said they knew which suspects to look for before serving the warrant.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio was at the scene and called the raid a "quick operation," adding that deputies will continue to look for the other seven suspects.

Those arrested are expected to face charges of identity theft.

Yuridia Rodriguez, 24, the wife of one of the arrested suspects, Angel Rodriguez, said her husband had been in the United States for 15 years after moving from Mexico.

Xiomara Gutierrez, a friend of the Rodriguez family, said the suspect moved there to earn money for his family.

"He's a good man, he's a good, hard worker and he's a good person," Gutierrez said.

Yeah but why pick the low lying fruit and the ones that are going to create the "outcry". If they really wanted to make a point go round up the more difficult cases. Round up the gang bangers and drug dealers! Then what would the outcry be? Hard to get sympathy for the true criminal element compared to someone actually working.

NO - he's a criminal, he broke the law. He's not a "good man" otherwise he would stand on line with all the other "good people" and wait patiently for "his turn".

Society is basically saying that it is OK to cut in line. It says much about US citizen's morals and attitudes toward others when they condone this kind of behavior. We need to return to the basics, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

There is much that Shefiff Joe does that NJ Sheriff's wouldn't dream of... Like his "Tent City". Surplus military tents set up in a lot next to the jail that house prisoners.. and when they complained about the Arizona heat he pretty much said "Our soldiers in Iraq are i the same tents, wearing body armor, and in 120 DEGREE HEAT. So shut up." Gotta love Sheriff Joe

Most low lying fruit as you put it is what they were caught for. Many times they also participate in other crimes. ID theft costs the US tax payer billions annually and causes the victims untold grief with everything from Credit applications to income tax filing. You can bank on the fact this criminal also has committed welfare and insurance fraud since they go hand in hand with id theft.

In the United States of America, it's ok for an illegal Mexican immigrant to commit fraud and use false identification. If an American born citizen does it, it's considered a crime. :deadhorse: :hope:
