intercooler 41 Posted October 18, 2010 what are you waitin' for! first time shooting mine today. what a gun! if you are not qualified to buy from cmp, I suggest you do it soon! garands just shoot amazing. the trigger is nice, they are balanced and even make a crappy shooter like me look good 48 shots and 46 in the the kill zone. 50 yard, first time out

Enjoy. Gen. George Patton thought it was a fine weapon. Guess he was right!!
mikeyboyeee 66 Posted October 18, 2010 What are they going for these days? I am not too familiar with them, but think I shot Wolfy's.
EchoMirage 137 Posted October 18, 2010 What are they going for these days? alot. a very nice one can easily be 1000+. many in 800 range. a beater with mismatched parts, refurbished could be 500ish. its not like picking up a mosin for $180.
njitmetal 2 Posted October 18, 2010 $600 for a beautiful HRA service grade from the CMP assuming you qualify.
usnmars 136 Posted October 18, 2010 The CMP is the best thing going right now. You cant do any better.
vjf915 456 Posted October 18, 2010 its not like picking up a mosin for $180. I was going to say you could pick up about 6-8 Mosins for the price of a Garand....but $180 for a Mosin??? Thats expensive. I picked up mine for $120 including NICS and tax, and mine is in pretty good condition. I would definitely love to pick up a Garand one day though... Guess he was right!! well it was the first time shooting in 25+ years for me. I am planning to do 100 this weekend...got to get better targets. I have a h&r and wra service grades on order now (priority mailed the order saturday)
Caine 147 Posted October 18, 2010 I believe this has been covered before, but what exactly do you need to do to qualify to order from the CMP?
intercooler 41 Posted October 18, 2010 http://www.thecmp.org/eligibility.htm here is what I used copies of: nj fid card nj drivers license NJ hunter license (qualifies for the shooting portion) Passport(can use birth certificate, proves US citizenship) Joined garand collectors association (nice news letter too) fill out forms, notarized them where needed (free at your bank btw) mailed in with order...15 days later garand is here
Maksim 1,504 Posted October 18, 2010 Even as a bolt action fan, comparing a garand to a bolt action mosin is just asinine. Get your garands while you can. CMP is running out of them.
intercooler 41 Posted October 18, 2010 yup, the winchesters they have now are likely the last...Orest even said that. The price for an H&R or Springfield service grade is a deal at $595. If you THINK you may want one, NOW is the time as they are going away fast. Even if you just sell it, you won't lose a dime on a cmp garand
vozella 2 Posted October 18, 2010 Anyone picked one up at one of the store/warehouse? I'm going to be in Alabama next month an planned on stopping by. However, it's impossible to get through on the pnone.

matty 810 Posted October 18, 2010 usnmars has...see his thread in the general firearms discussion forum CMP has a great selection of M1s right now, and cr*ploads of ammo--FOR NOW! Eventually this will end and those rifles will be out on the market, costing a lot more. When the CMP ran out of ammo in 09, cans on GB went thru the roof! I am very tempted to get an HRA SG, but am short of time and cash for that kinda stuff now. I can sneak in ammo, but another rifle will cost me dearly in the near term
