its only a 9mm. WTF?

Simple answer?? No

while it is STATUTORILY possible to own a Machinegun (there is NO SUCH THING as a "Semi-Auto" MP-5) In NJ, the reality is that it is functionally impossible to do so under the laws for Registering and licensing for possession of a Machinegun, which range from the Demonstration of "Need" to the CLEO signoff of every municipality through which you would have to travel with that machinegun. Much like CCW, according to the law it is "Possible" to get one, but the reality is that there is an operational ban, even though there is a mechanism in place for registration and permitting.

California's list looks much worse.

You gotta love a state that needs to put pictures in its statutes in order to describe what its laws really mean... That state can't implode fast enogh as far as I am concerned. Jerry Brown is the poster child for an insolvent California and they just elected him Governor again... Go Jerry, go!

I heard a story about a former Director of the Treasury (don't remember his name) under the first President Bush who I beleive lived in the Harding area and was denied a Machinegun license dispite the fact that he once oversaw the ATF among other agencies under the Treasury umbrella.

If he can't get a MG license, no one can.
