Computer help ASAP

Recommended Posts

Buying in a retail store is a waste of money (in my opinion).

If you're not really really in a great hurry do yourself a favor, go to http://www.techbargains.com and see if they have anything you like.

Then go to http://www.fatwallet.com, http://www.retailmenot.com or http://www.bigcrumbs.com and check for current coupons and cashback offerings. All that can save you hundreds.

That said, laptop is definitely more portable. You fold the screen and it's ready to go. When I'm at home, I hook up my laptop to a 24" LCD and a keyboard.

If however you don't plan on transporting your PC but real estate is of importance all-in-ones or the super-slim desktops are a solution. Some of them can also be mounted to the back of an LCD screen.

Few years ago I bought an Asus EEE box B202 and mounted it to the back of a 22" LCD. Takes next to no space. Great for browsing, some Word processing and messenger/skype. Other than that it'seriously underpowered.

Nowadays they have more powerful ones. B1012 or B1501 is dual core, can fit more RAM and has a much better graphics card.

These are a bit more expensive. tigerdirect.com has a "no-name" brand, very similar configuration usually for a lot less.

Doesn't seem to be on sale now, a friend of mine snagged one for a lot less.

Dell has some neat small PCs too with a much better CPU than Atom.

Its a touch screen.

I will say though, as a former marketing rep for HP... you can get some really good deals in a retail store. Just shop the adds. We (HP) would actually lose money on the laptops and desktop pc's on retail sales a lot of the time... its the add ons that sell and make money, printers and ink.

Best place to buy a laptop if you need one right away and cant order online is either sams club or costco. They have the best buying power and usually get you the most for your money especially when it comes to laptops. My dad got a hp laptop few months back with some really good specs for around $800 and my friend bought the same one few weeks before my dad and paid almost 1k at bestbuy. Definitely check out a sams club or costco by you I wouldn't really suggest walmart. You may save money over all but walmart tends to deal in budget laptops and pc's so you end up with a system that needs upgrades and costs more in long run. HP and Dell are the better brands and Toshiba is also very good when it comes to laptops. If you can wait and buy online check b&h photo or newegg.com they tend to have best online prices amazon is very competitive aswell. I also agree with maks that the touchscreen all in ones are still up in the air as far as reliability they tend to have heat issues causing instability. Just my two cents best of luck.
