Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted June 13, 2011 So, I was cruising JG sales a little while back and I noticed in the C&R section they had some hungarian M44s. I've always had a soft spot for M44s (well, everything com-bloc really) and being partially Hungarian, I was intrigued. The rifles were rough, but advertised as with decent bores and mechanically sound. Closely examining one of the photos, I saw a name carved roughly into the stock. Damn! Thats awesome! I call up J&G sales and sure enough they had 2 rifles there with name carvings and so I bought one. While it is pure speculation, these rifles most likely saw action during the Hungarian revolution of 1956. The M44s were only made between 1952-1953, the revolution was 1956, and then shortly after that they were withdrawn from service. A beat up M44 with a name carved into it was likely captured from a police or military station/depot by revolutionaries and used against the russians (whom were deploying the top secret AK-47 at the time). Mine in particular is not matching as far as serial numbers go except for the stock & receiver, but it is all "02" stamped which indicates they are all hungarian parts. Bore is better than expected! Best of all, it doesnt have just one name but several. I hope this doesnt mean it passed through THAT many people lol. Bottom of the stock was broken off and roughly epoxied back on, too. Probably done in the field because its done shitty lol but looks solid. And now for the porn... and one for giggles

Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted June 13, 2011 Well, its Hungarian. Felicia, Stefan, and (V? Maybe first name initial) Cristian with something lightly scribed over it that I cant quite make out
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted June 13, 2011 Could be anything. Dead guys rifle that was passed on. A training rifle. The stories it could tell and what it has seen. Nice find dude.

Yeah, its oozing with history. Doubt it was used for training since a soldier would get his a** kicked for molesting his rifle with name(s) scribbled haphazardly onto the stock. Ray Ray 3,566 Posted June 13, 2011 So, a battlefield pick-up maybe?
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted June 13, 2011 Hmm your stock is cracked through. Mine's like that too. What do you think - leave it like that, or replace it?
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted June 13, 2011 Hmm your stock is cracked through. Mine's like that too. What do you think - leave it like that, or replace it? It was broken clean off and then glued back together pretty roughly, but seems solid. I'm not sure if you are kidding or not but Im def. keeping the stock lol
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted June 13, 2011 Semi-kidding. My M44 had the same thing happen. I've been tinkering with it so I was considering changing out stocks.
