johna hex 1 Posted August 14, 2011 What's up NJ anybody ever paint a gun before.... My father is an auto body painter so I have access to spray Guns and a booth.... I'm thinking of tiger stripe on my m&p 15-22. Just for s&gs ... I'm worried that the paint is gonna give me assembly issues.
john q publik 10 Posted August 14, 2011 I recently finished up a build for my daughter......Hello Kitty colored .22lr AR15. Sprayed it with Duracoat. Fairly simple to do. I did have some minor issues with assembly due to the thickness of the Duracoat. Got into all the pin holes and tightened them up enough that the pins would not go in freely, of course, I painted the pins as well, so that might have added to the interference. What I would recommend is to insert pins of the proper size into all of the holes prior to spraying, and spray light coats. Here is a pic of my finished artwork;
robot_hell 72 Posted August 15, 2011 How well does duracoat hold up? Is it possible to reverse the process or change paint colors without making it too thick?

JackDaWack 2,895 Posted August 19, 2011 Painters Tape and Vaseline can go a long way when painting something, you can fill in the holes for the pins with vaseline and tape off anything you dont want to paint like where the upper meets the lower. The trick is to prep as much as you can and then clean all the surfaces you intend to paint. This ensures you dont end up messing with the fitment of the pins and the upper and lower. You could always go back after painting and reem out the holes and sand where there upper meets the lower, but i find that doing the hard work first is easier and less hassle. johna hex 1 Posted August 22, 2011 whats up NJ masked the gun, the vaseline trick works great by the way i've used that on another project.... im still thinking of a color.... im thinking od green tiger stripe.. open to anyones ideas or suggestions
hd2000fxdl 422 Posted August 22, 2011 the vaseline trick works great by the way i've used that on another project Sure does, have done that for years on parts on bike builds, just wish places that do powder coating and chrome work would follow directions on surfaces that were clearance critical. Relieving new chrome or powder coat from surfaces S0ck, threaded holes not so bad but still.. arghhhh Harry
