Malsua 1,422 Posted September 7, 2011 Please bear with me here. So, I was under the impression that as you increase voltage, you decrease electric consumption, is that not so? Increase voltage, decrease amperage. Wattage (consumption) remains the same. The point of using higher voltage is that you can use smaller wires and achieve the same result. SW9racer 262 Posted September 8, 2011 The next thing i found in my research is the lenght of the cable from the generator to your subpanel. I want to keep the gen in the garage, and move it to the driveway to run it outside. Of course my panel is on the other side of the house. So eithr i drag it across the yard in the snow, or I run a 80' cable to the other side. It will be a 30 amp circuit, so if I go 8 guage wire I should be good for the long cable run with a less than 2% loss at full load.
SW9racer 262 Posted September 8, 2011 Costco online has an ETQ 7250 watt / 8250 surge (eastern tool & equipment inc) for $849 shipped. Nice feature on this one is the extra electronics that provides a clean sine wave for computers and such, also has remote start, and will auto throttle the engine based on load. Has enough power to run my furnace in case of frozen trees taking out the power lines. Costco put this on sale for $649 beginning 9/15 for online. I just called them and they adjusted my order.

Hmm...I wonder if I should order it now and ask for the price adjustment like you did. I'd hate to wait until the 15th and find out they're sold out. Thanks for the heads up. CageFighter 236 Posted September 9, 2011 I could get a 15k for 5600 and do the work myself. I could probably be into it for $8k max but I am not sure I am staying here, so I am not spending the $$ if ur leaving NJ, take me w/ you!
