Secaucus PD - thank you!

Recommended Posts

All to many posts on the forum depict a negative experience in applying for the Firearms ID and/or Pistol Permits. My wife and I have either been incredibly lucky or Secaucus PD is a cut above many of their peers.

We relocated to the USA less than 2 years ago, we received our Green Cards in August 2011 and we applied immediately for our FID and 3 PPs. We've both moved around a number of countries over the years, and my mother was born in a country that is now considered on the 'terrorist list' although she is European by descent, my wife is from a country that is not officially recognized by most of the world and the UN although we are both duel citizens with other countries. All of these complexities and the NJ Gun Forum stories had me expecting a very long drawn out process. However in less than six weeks we received our FIDs and Permits and this included delays due to me being overseas for 3 weeks during the application process.

The Detective at Secaucus PD was courteous, professional and even helpful. Before he handed over our FIDs he even laminated them so they didn't fall apart! The biggest delay during our application (other than those due to me being overseas such as finger prints) was in Secaucus PD receiving the 'ok to proceed' response back from wherever it is they send the completed Mental Health forms.

I've written a thank you letter to the Chief of Police as it is all too easy to complain about poor experiences, and I find we rarely formally recognise a good experience.

We are now proud (and safe) owners of a Sig 226 USPSA and a Sig 228 and will be at ShoreShot this weekend for our first chance to try them out.

Good that you have had a positive experience. I ve read on other forums that secaucus can take more than 6 months, but this was a long time ago.

6 weeks is about what i expect from my PD since when i got the FID 2yrs ago they simply told me that it always is 45 days and it usually has been either 45 days or less than that. Not exactly the 30 day by law but at least i know hoe many days it exactly takes.

Now, when i visit my family in Utah and my dad buys a gun in 5-10min just to rub it in  i realize we ve all been trained here in NJ to feel lucky because something didnt take 4-6mos , year ........

Both guys in t6he DB are gun collectors from way back. In the past the average wait was six to eight weeks. The new live scam prints program cut the way back from five weeks to about two hours. Depending on the workload, they try. Like everywhere else, they now have fewer people to do the same workload. Good to hear you were treated well.

I can positively say that the Chief has seen this comment.
