What if SHTF during the winter?

What brand of tent is that? Any recommendations of brands.......i m sure you didn't get this at Dicks or Cabelas?

 

That's the Firstlight tent made by Black Diamond. I wouldn't recommend it for you. It's specifically an ultralight, cold weather tent. It's not waterproof, nor seam sealed. But it handles blizzards and high winds far above treeline quite well - it's a popular tent on Everest and definitely not stocked by Cabela's or Dicks.

 

If you're looking for a good 2 person backpacking tent, I would look at any of the "3-season" tents by Marmot, Nemo, or Mountain Hardwear. They'll all be comparable in quality - it comes down to features, like how light, how much ventilation, or the size of the vestibules (if any) - and those are harder to recommend without knowing your specific usage. I'm willing to sacrifice a little weight for a larger vestibule.
