How long do you have to send P2P copies to local PD and NJSP?

In a FTF pistol sale, how long do you have to send copies of the P2P to the local PD and NJ State Police? Is it mandatory? What happens if I buy a pistol and the seller never mails the copies?

5 business days if I remember correctly. that's why you should request you drop them in a mailbox together

The seller has 5 days to send in the copies. Nothing will happen to the buyer, just keep your copy of the p2p. The seller would have to be an idiot not to send them in. If the buyer was to do something stupid with the gun, they would come looking for the last known owner (the seller).
