Pistol Grip Pump Action Legal?

Recommended Posts

Without a stock, you may not purchase it from a dealer if you are under 21, as it is not considered a shotgun by definition. It is a pistol gripped firearm per Federal Law.

Is it a shotgun under NJ law?

Do I have to burn a P2P on one?

Does it count toward my one gun per month?

Can I transport with FID or does it need to be transported with all the same restrictions as a handgun?

Is it a shotgun under NJ law? Yes, but Federal Law says you must be 21 to purchase from a dealer.

Do I have to burn a P2P on one? It transfers one a COE.

Does it count toward my one gun per month? No.

Can I transport with FID or does it need to be transported with all the same restrictions as a handgun? FPID.

Yes legal.. Not very practical unless just to show off to friends.

AKA "cruiser" shotguns b/c they're intended to fit in the rack of a police cruiser -- but unless you are an actual police with an unfortunate job that requires spending your day patrolling Camden NJ, it may not be the best choice.

IMO, pistol-grip-only shotguns look "badass" but that's about it. Have you fired one? If you haven't, then I'd suggest you do because there's a good chance that you would end up adding a stock anyway. (If you can fire 00 buckshot from a 12-gauge pistol-grip-only shotgun and your hand doesn't hurt afterward -- I tip my hat to you. I sure couldn't do that.)

A short LOP 18.5" barrel shotgun with a stock might work better for HD.

I added the Hogue Tamer grip to my Mossberg and I have no problem at all going through boxes of buckshot. Quite a difference from the grip that it came with.

I chose a pistol grip model because I already had a Ithaca Model 37. If I didn't I most likely would have bought a shotgun with a stock.
