risers on optics?

Whats the purpose of these risers? I have seen ones little higher on some rifles too.

 

I dont get it, I personally like more streamline low profile look.

Lower 1/3 cowitness if there were irons. It also looks like there is a hole in the mount to allow use of iron sight with an ACOG which is typically a no-go.

 

The taller mount also keeps the shooter in a more "heads up" position reducing fatigue and strain on the neck while increasing and maintaining situational awareness.

Like he said. Keep your head u, eyes open, and sights out of the way for the most part till you need them

And, oddly, the AR's usually higher distance between sight line and bore axis allows for its "dual zero" distances. That said, that picture is of a oddly tall mount.

Agree. Those high mounts hurt my neck. Used to a standard 4x32 ACOG mount on a flat top receiver. Comfortable for me.

I actually need a riser for a primary arms red dot/ reflex on one of my AR's. Anyone have any recommendations? My woman bought me the reflex for christmas but didnt know to get a riser lol. So, obviously it sits too low to actually use.

I believe it has the same screw placement as the Burris fast fire. If you want good mounts they're gonna be probably 75% or more of the price of the optic. I'd look at the 2 HE recommended. Primary arms probably has one for a discount price but I can't speak to the quality you'd get.
