Fun with Harbor Freight winches

Recommended Posts

So I have a SnowSport HD plow on my truck and it works great.  When I first got it, I added a winch to raise and lower the plow.  That's been on there 4 years now and it works great.

Harbor Freight had the 2500lb winches on sale for $50 last week so I figured what the heck and I bought one. Two coworkers and I used mostly scrap stuff to fabricate a powered angle for my plow.  It works great.  Now the plow is fully pimped out :)

The best part about this plow is that there is NO maintenance.   It sits outside all  year and works just as good, year over year.  It pushes snow into piles as tall as I am without any trouble.  For a light duty plow and clearing my area and my neighbors drives, you can't beat it.

Anyway, here it is.

I had one on my 1992 K1500. Worked pretty well for what it was. Sold it when I sold the truck.

I use it mostly to clear the end of driveway crap that the town leaves for me.  I also do my neighbors and the bank of mailboxes.  Stuff that would take lots of runs with the snow blower, takes seconds with the plow.  Shrug.  I looked at a full sized plow and those start at 5k and go up from there and since I don't do anything commercial, this is plenty.

Nice driveway engineering there. I considered one of those for my Jeep a few years ago, but just stuck with the blower.

Thanks.... we did use a milling machine and tig welder, so it's precision driveway engineering ;)
