Car with off-roading option

Recommended Posts

Too late now, but the upper trim lines of the Grand Cherokee offer a variable ride height with a button push.  You can feel it change significantly, and if you raise up high and then forget to lower it once back on the pavement, it will lower itself back automatically (based on speed).

The OEM tires are great for highway and city driving, and just ok offroad.  But swapping out wheel sets is a royal pain, unless you have easy access to a lift.

For beach cruising, it works for me just airing down the tires at the right time.  But I don't take a shiny black SUV out into the woods or over rocks.  For that I'd want the new Trackhawk so I can skip over the rough spots at 150mph. :)

I test drove all variants of this car, and I have to admit that Trailhawk was the best one. Close second came Limited with 18" wheels. I decided to go with the Limited + Lux Group 2 for one main reason: off road tires on Trailhawk extended it's breaking distance. so I preferred safer truck over cool factors. Lux 2 gave me ventilated seats which I wanted.
I will see how this car performs so far 3 days, I like it.

My GF's car has some pretty foggy/oxidized headlights. I've been doing some internet digging on ways to fix the problem aside from new housings.

So, I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with some of the kits available for lens restoration for oxidized housings. I have heard good things about the Sylvania kit.

There is also the simple do it yourself way with some automotive wet-dry high grit ( ie 2000-3000grit) sandpaper, soapy water and then some plastic polishing compound ( equivalent to 5000 grit I think).

      Thanks for any help/opinions.

Time to replace our tires on the LR2 as they're almost out of legal tread. Anyone recommend somewhere to have the new tires fitted within a 20 mile radius of Secaucus (Hudson County). I've seen there is a STS Tire in East Rutherford and Jersey City. There's also PEP Boys and some independents.

We'll most likely order the tires from TireRack.

Anyway, as some of you may know, my '97 Maxima is currently sitting around until I can get it fixed after being rear-ended by a Mays landing driving instructor. Though this probably happened the other day (as my mom mentioned her car being broken into again) I just noticed about an hour ago that my car was broken into, and that stuff was scattered around inside.

I think they first looked through my glove compartment, since everything in there was emptied out onto the seat. The funny thing is, my center console hardly had anything moved around in it. Only the papers at the very top were taken out of the console, and left on the driver's seat, it also looks like they got out of there in a hurry since they left a set of sunglasses and a phone charger in my car.

The papers at the top of my center console? NRA membership papers I never sent in XD.

Oh, and before you ask, no, we didn't bother calling the police, car break-ins have been going on around me for a few months with regularity. The last time my mom's car was broken into, they ended up releasing the guy with no charges despite his lengthy criminal record of drugs/theft/assault charges.

As usual, the police around here are worthless for anything but traffic violations.
