Rob0115 1,105 Posted February 3, 2017 Every time I have a permit to use an I see one I want it. However I have never shot one new discusssed the gun with anyone who owns one. Anyone have one and give me their view in it ? I'd like a little insight before dumping 2k +.
High Exposure 5,664 Posted February 3, 2017 My buddy in CT has one (with the LAM, soft case, original issue Safariland thigh rig, and correct suppressor). He is an enormous HK fanboy and has more $$ than sense sometimes It's a really nice, extremely accurate, soft shooting handgun. The thing is HUGE. He sometimes refers to it as a "Crew served pistol". He does CCW it occasionally in a custom rig by Blackpoint Tactical. Parts are expensive and hard to find, preventative maintenance is minimal though. I never had a desire to own one. Shooting one didn't do anything to change that. I had the money I would probably spend it on something else. But, if I wanted one, even a little bit, I'd get one and not look back. Rob0115 1,105 Posted February 3, 2017 I have a can, not the HK can, but a I have an AAC TiRant .45 can. Ugh, so many guns so little money. I'm going to go and handle it again today. I'm a bit of HK fanboy myself but that money opens up a lot of options, like 4 Glocks!

Moto102 7 Posted February 3, 2017 I have a USP tactical 45 and it's just a little shorter than the mk23 and a lot less money. I enjoy shooting it. So that maybe an option for you
BullzeyeNJ 104 Posted February 3, 2017 I had one years ago and sold it locally to a friend. As you may know, the thing is huge. I have big hands so it didnt bother me. I wanted to get an action job done to it to better match up with my USP match triggers. Nobody in the country who worked on HKs would touch it. When I called and asked HK about it they said it would void my warranty if the trigger group was modified. Frustrated, I sold it to my friend who I still see on occasion and he still raves about the Mk23. Overall , a great pistol with some military history behind it. bhunted 887 Posted March 12, 2017 So I got to test drive one yesterday thanks to Jimmy at GFH. I'm getting one, it really suited me. It is also on my short list. How much bigger is it compared to the HK45 which I do have. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
Shane45 807 Posted March 12, 2017 If you want it to carry or use, I think there are better options. If you want it to collect as an interesting piece, by all means go for it.
Rob0115 1,105 Posted March 12, 2017 I have a plethora of carry pieces. I just enjoyed target shooting with this.

It won't deter me one way or another. Was just curious how you felt. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

High Exposure 5,664 Posted March 12, 2017 I got my buddy in CT sending me photos in a bit. He has both. According to him: If you're just blasting the MK23 all day long. If CCW then the HK45. The MK 23 is extreme overkill in accuracy and reliability. Despite the crew served gun jokes, it weighs less loaded than my 1911. It's just the sheer size. Vickers said the HK45 would be the one gun to have if gunsmiths and spare parts did not exist. They HK45C might be the perfect carry gun. 10 rds and smaller than the 45. That was the gun Vickers envisioned when he helped with the development. It replaced the MK 23 as the MK 24.
TooBigToFit 2 Posted March 13, 2017 (I was sent here from the Chat Room where my love affair for the pistol is well known). Just for full disclosure, I am an HK fan (but I must assert, not a fanboy). Also, I now live in an NFA friendly state. Sorry! It's my favorite handgun. It's got an overall pretty good trigger (heavy but smooth DA with a fairly predictable wall if you wanna stage it, fairly crisp SA break with a bit of overtravel, but a fantastic, short, tactile and audible reset). The sight radius, trigger, and long barrel together deliver a stupidly accurate pistol. It's big, yes. But that's partially what makes it fun. Working the slide, to steal a phrase from Colion Noir's video on the same gun, feels like opening the door to a bank vault. It's smooth. People see you shooting the gun at the range, and most can't help but ask you about it. It's a fun conversation starter. There's no reason you can't use it as an HD gun though... Its capacity is comparable to other double stack .45s (save for the ludicrous FNX 45 Tactical), and you're not really trying to hide an HD gun in your pants, so the size isn't as big of a factor. I don't have an HK45 to compare it to, but I do have a decent number of other HKs. You can see the Mk23 + KAC suppressor below next to them... From left to right, VP9 and P30SK, USP Tactical 9mm and USP Compact 9mm LEM, the Mk23 of course and the USP Compact .45 Stainless. The USP Compact .45 will be closest in size to the HK45C...

I'll have to get a group shot with the P7, P30, USP Expert and SP5.
