  1. Which Walmarts or Dick's sell ammo? The Walmart near me in Riverdale does not.
  2. I guess God gets the final vote on that. So let me see if I got this right. Many people will perish in mass disasters on May 21st, and those of us who don't are doomed to eternal damnation? Sounds to me like a no-win scenario. On the other hand, it could be a good excuse to stock up on more ammo.
  3. Nice gun, nice shooting! I'm still contemplating what to do with my last P2P, and I might put that one in the mix. What do they go for?
  4. Good story! Makes me that much more annoyed that we can't carry in NJ.
  5. All right, I'm happy to announce that I finally got around to picking up a knife. Stopped at Mastodon after CR yesterday to inquire, and for six bucks they sold me something that looks a lot like this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10202677_425011002_425000000_425011000?hvarAID=shopping_pricegrabber (If I had paid five dollars less, I would have had a buck knife!) Anyway, that should be fine for my purposes, especially since I'm still not sure what my purposes are.
  6. Got up to CR yesterday afternoon with enough time to leisurely make my way around for the first time. What a gorgeous day, and my birthday to boot! Spent a half hour at the 100 yard range working with my 10/22 from 50 yards. I'm going to need to figure out what kind of targets to use. I was shooting at about 2" Shoot N C's on white paper, and I couldn't see where my bullets were hitting. I think I need to get some of the 6" or 8" ones. From there I moved over to the silhouette range for 20 minutes or so of plinking. Looks like they could use some more targets in there. There was no one else around, so I was able to move among different stations. Then it was over to the handgun range, where I spent over an hour and a half. I had the place to myself until the last 15-20 minutes when a couple of other guys arrived. It was great! I was able to go out and change targets whenever I wanted. (I'm somewhat spoiled from The Bullet Hole, where targets and distances can be changed at will.) I even tried some 50 yard shooting, which I would probably never do if anyone else were around; partly because I'm so bad at it, and partly because I wouldn't want to persist with it for an entire half hour between cease fires. I asked one of the guys if he was on NJGF, but he had no idea what I was talking about, so I suggested he check us out.
  7. Congratulations! Sounds like she's your first child?
  8. I started watching Top Shot around mid-season. I enjoyed seeing the various weapons used (with the possible exception of the tomahawks), but I found the petty bitchiness to be so annoying that I went here: http://community.history.com/forums/170/ to express my views. Turns out there were dozens or more other people who liked the show, but were put off by Jamie being sent to elimination every week. With any luck, the producers will respond to the public outcry and change the format for next season. As someone else noted, the elimination round should be between the two worst performers, to eliminate the politics. Alternatively, they could have the last place shooter pick his or her opponent, which would probably have the same net effect, as that person would be likely to select someone that he would have the best chance of beating. As for Jay, I think he did really well for a non-military guy. While his styles may have been a bit unorthodox, I believe he benefited from his experiences as a competitive golfer, which helped him to perform better under pressure. Plus, the fact that less was expected from him took some of the pressure off. I believe that's how he won his next to last elimination challenge. Everyone expected his opponent to win, but he (the opponent, whose name I can't recall) seemed to succumb to the heat of the moment and perform at less than his best. Any word on when next season is scheduled to air?
  9. Yep, definitely saw both of you. Sorry I didn't know that you were NJGF people. I was there from a little after 1:00, until around 2:00. I was wearing a gray, short-sleeved shirt and a green hat. I moved around among a few stations to get a look at some different targets, trying my best not to muzzle sweep anyone as I went by.
  10. So that would explain the black stuff that was on my hands when I was finished shooting yesterday.
  11. Just put Tech Sights on my 10/22 carbine. OMG, what a difference! My accuracy has improved tremendously, and my shots mostly go pretty close to where I'm aiming, unlike the wide dispersal I was getting with the stock sights. Imagine what will happen when I get good!
  12. I was up there for a little while early yesterday afternoon. I didn't really have time, as I was headed to NY to visit family, but I had joined last week and couldn't stay to shoot. Then it rained on Wednesday and the range was closed on Saturday, so I just had to dash up for 45 minutes or so at the Silo range to try out the new Tech Sights on my 10/22. How will I recognize you NJGF guys and gals (and vice versa) when I'm there?
  13. Lunker, does the Federal bulk ammo you're using have a lead tip? Would FMJ or JHP ammo shoot any cleaner?
  14. Did a quick Google check, as I was unfamiliar with it. Cool looking gun! Which model do you have?
  15. How did it happen? Marty Brodeur had a similar injury a couple of years ago, and he was back playing hockey after just a few months. Hope your recovery is swift as well!
  16. If I were you, I'd let somebody else wear it for the tests.
  17. Thanks for the offer. I'll definitely take you up on that. I'm not a brass whore, but I'm right with you on the other two!
  18. I was up there on Sunday morning to join. Beautiful day, but I couldn't stay to shoot because I had to dash off to a family event. Was planning to head up there today, but I would imagine it's not much fun in the rain. Even if the shooting stations are covered, seems like it would be a pain to have the targets get wet, and to have to walk out in the rain on the wet ground to change them. Am I just being a big baby about it? On a different subject, I thought I heard the gentleman giving the orientation talk say something about cleaning up one's spent shells. Probably a dumb question, but do I need to bring a broom and dustpan or something to gather them? (I have no plans to re-load.) I guess I'm a little spoiled from shooting at The Bullet Hole, where the RO comes around and sweeps up the casings.
  19. Man, I feel like a real lightweight next to you guys, but here's my cache: 1. Ruger 10/22 (Tech Sights ordered) 2. Glock 19, Gen. 4 (My second Glock, to go with my G23. Catching up to Hickok.) Soon: 3. Mossberg 500 4. Beretta 92A1 (less than 30 days to go) 5. ??? (not sure what to do with my third P2P)
  20. Congratulations and good luck to you!
  21. Congratulations on the birth of your new son!
  22. Not that I would ever even consider doing this, but has anyone ever been arrested and prosecuted for stopping on the way home from the range for a cup of coffee, or worse yet, for getting something to eat?
  23. When I read the title, I thought they were going to close the tunnel to traffic so we could shoot down there. What a disappointment!
  24. Mipafox, what do you feel are the factors responsible for your dramatic improvement? Lunker, besides watching your diet, do you get out for some exercise? Just walking for a half hour or so a day will do wonders for you physically, as well as mentally. Good luck to both of you!
