Most people are not familiar with it because it's filled out and sent in without their knowing by the FFL. If you buy three of more of the same low end handgun (i.e. Jimenez 25 auto) and live in a border state, I would expect a visit by an ATF agent. That being said, I've heard of some FFL's filling them out for stripped AR lowers which I find irritating because 3310.4 is only meant for handguns.

I'm not an expert, but my back of envelope is: IMBEL Receiver - $475 plus $20 ship + FFL transfer/NICS Parts Kit - $300-$700 or much more. Sarco has $300 jungle-rusted Cuban parts kits if you want a real DIY refinishing project or you can go high-end Aussie or Austrian parts kit if you can hunt one down at Oaks 7 US parts - $? - for US 922r compliance Gunsmithing - $350+ if you want to send it to a place like Arizona Response Systems to assemble/refinish. Can also do yourself if you have the tooling (like the kid below). Plus other costs like shipping, mags, etc. that I always underestimate. I wouldn't mind a Rhodesian patterned Right Arm of the Free World... lol

I'm walking two people through the FID/P2P process now. Overheard them talking about buying a handgun for home defense at a holiday party. Never would have figured. LGS's seem to be selling AR's pretty well. Active shooter seminars at where I train krav. The San Bernandino jihad thing and Democrats talking about bans is really driving sales.

Since it's private, I'm assuming you can tailor it to whatever you want on his menu (http://www.vickerstactical.com/class-specific-info.html) It's definitely doable if there's enough interest, but organizing will be difficult (i.e. people are flaky and no good deed goes unpunished).

LAV 2-day private class would run around $700/pp assuming 12 people in class.

Other than St. Augustine, everything else is in a decent drive. Highview, WV (EVTC) is about a 4.5 hour drive from NNJ. BHTC is out of PA. Either Lewiston or New Holland.

Agreed on the EAG and medical classes. I will probably take the EAG classes in St. Augustine as it's the best bang for the buck and an excuse to visit Florida. For medical, I'm eyeing up the REI 2-day Wilderness medical class, but am still researching what else is out there. I've contacted LAV regarding private Pistol classes here in NJ. If there's enough committed NJGF interest, maybe we can put something together.

This is a win-win! Chris Christie, who is rising in New Hampshire polls, gets to show he did something for us poor gun owners in NJ. The last thing Christie wants is someone bringing up Carol Bowne at a New Hampshire forum. The last last thing he wants is some riff-raff protesters showing up at one of his NH rallies or at his Mendham home with signs of Carol Bowne. He effectively inoculated himself against that by carving out a justifiable need exception for future Carol Bowne's. ANJRPC (i.e. Scott Bach) gets to declare victory! Mr. Bach, who I'm guessing makes some decent coin like around $200K per year, gets an attaboy. So, win-win....
