How would an RSO know if your steel cased ammo had a lead or bimetal bullet?

Instant Pot/electric cooker? Anyone bought one?
AlexTheSane replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in General Discussion
Instant pot is amazing. You can make food in a fraction of the time it takes to make it in the oven or slow cooker. I've made soups, macaroni and cheese, cakes, hard boiled eggs, pot roasts, whole turkey breasts, whole chickens, the list goes on. Bone broth. I save the chicken bones from meals and freeze them. Then I use the instant pot to make bone broth in 3 hours rather than the 24 hours I used to make it in the slow cooker. The food remains very moist and the cleanup is simple. Greatest kitchen gadget I've ever bought. -
Minute rice has a shelf life of 5 years. Canned tuna is about 3 years. SPAM supposedly will last forever, it may just discolor. Canned beans are about a year. If you're looking for easy, no planning stuff. Mountain House is good for 10 years. Wise is good for 25 years. All depends what you're going for. Right, and look how hard you had to look for find these. It's just simpler for a range to say no steel cased ammo over "no steel cased ammo except..." then have people arguing that their steel cased ammo isn't bi-metal

No, but it's difficult to test if the bullet is magnetic if the case is also magnetic.

Yes, but sorting aluminum from brass would be significantly harder than sorting steel from brass.
-
I guess the true test of motivation is whether they say only brass allowed or only no steel cased allowed.
-
Tula is notorious for having steel in their bullets with no indication on the packaging. While I don't doubt that greed is a motivator, I think prohibiting brass collecting is also avoiding a safety issue. You know that there will be those people who collect their brass who will reach past the shooting bench to try to get as much as they can.
-
The issue isn't the case, the issue is the core of the bullet. They generally test for steel cores with a magnetic tester. If the cases are steel, they can't get an accurate test. If it was about making money or being lazy, they would also not allow aluminum cased ammo. I've been to ranges that did not allow steel cased but had no problem with aluminum. You can sort out steel cases with a magnet.

That's who I got them from. Just seemed to be a high price. I've never priced clips before.
-
It's all well and good until Taurus stops producing the revolver and the moon clips (or in my case with the Taurus 405, stellar clips) become unavailable from Taurus and the only place to get them is a CNC shop that sells 5 for $30.

NJ arrests another one, this time from FL

But why even mention it? Do you go out of your way to mention every object in the car that you can bludgeon or stab someone with? Why not? What's the difference? Bringing it up without being asked is just taking the chance that you're dealing with one of the small number of officers who would love nothing more than to drag you to jail. -

Can you unscrew the choke? I don't want a useless shotgun.

Magazine Floorplates Question
AlexTheSane replied to Scorpio64's topic in Firearm Hobby / Sport Discussion
Are they modified larger capacity magazines or are they manufactured lowered capacity magazines? Like the 15rd G17 magazines have a shorter spring and larger block at the bottom, no need for permanently affixed floor plates. -
Gives it character.
