DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted July 13, 2009 So I've got a GSG-5 on order, wanted to brainstorm with some other GSG-5 owners on place to get accessories and tips for running the gun. Here's a big ARFCOM thread on the GSG-5: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=41&t=244309 And the whole AFRCOM GSG-5 section: http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=6&f=41 Here's what I've found so far for accessories: http://rrages.com/ - Customized foregrips, stocks, optics mounts and they have 15 round magazines in stock. They also have upgraded fastener and pin kits. Just placed an order with them today, will update with how it goes. http://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=15 - Factory H&K parts, some of which will work with the GSG combat optical link click me. http://www.gsg5accessories.com/ Edit - One More: http://www.mygsg5.com/ Reviews: http://demigodllc.com/articles/gsg-5-mp5-in-22-lr/ http://www.gsg5rifle.com/item/77083_GSG-5_Rifle.aspx Youtube user OKfirearms has a great channel with many GSG-5 upgrade/service videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/okfirearms His GSG-5 Complete teardown, screw upgrade and re-assembly video: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 -

NJ-Tom 4 Posted July 13, 2009 Digz- Here is another video you will enjoy. I purchased the screws and pins for my GSG but I have not installed them yet, additionally I have the buffer for the charging handle. The Pro Mag did not work as well as the factory for me, I am waiting for the factory 15 round magazines which were on backorder. If I ever shoot a match like in the video I will install a optical sight and the rail as needed. I'm approaching 8000 rounds thru mine without any major problems. Good Luck Tom
DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted July 14, 2009 Oops, thanks for the forum move. Tom, can you be a bit more specific about the issues you had with the Pro mags? I've got 2 on order and if they blow then I'll wait for factory mags.
NJ-Tom 4 Posted July 14, 2009 Digz - The Pro Mag would not load correctly after 5-6 shots the bullet was jamming, close inspection revealed the angle of the plate inside the magazine was different then the factory, the bullets nose was not high enough. This was a magazine I had borrowed from a friend, I emailed my friend last night he replied that the manufacturer replaced that faulty mag and he has not had any trouble with the others (he has 6 all together). Make sure the follower in the magazine sits at the same angle as the factory, also do not hold the magazine while firing it causes jams with factory and Pro Mags. Guest Posted July 14, 2009 JUST curious.. this is a .22 right? what is the ultimate goal of these builds?
NJ-Tom 4 Posted July 14, 2009 JUST curious.. this is a .22 right? what is the ultimate goal of these builds? Just a 22 . Goal is reliability, the factory screws loosen up and cause problems, don't mistake this as a big build we are talking about a $10.00 screw and nut kit and a $10.00 buffer for the bolt. DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted July 14, 2009 JUST curious.. this is a .22 right? what is the ultimate goal of these builds? A reliable, accurate and fun plinking toy that uses cheap ammo.
unloco 2 Posted July 15, 2009 I have not yet had a problem with the Promags and i've shot 200 rounds through them without a jam. I purchased two 15 rounders from RRAGES.COM. I also did the screw and buffer upgrade, very easy.
DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted July 15, 2009 Thanks unloco. From what I'm reading it seems there's been two "versions" of the promags and the later ones are better than the earlier ones. Where did you get the foregrip for yours?

DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted July 19, 2009 Matt, resistance is futile.... Edited top post to include OKfirearms's youtube channel. Check it out, lots of coherent and well produced "how-to" videos for the GSG-5.

DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted August 18, 2009 GSG-5 guys - periodically make sure your bolt jacket bolts are tightened down and consider using blue loctite on them (They are part #100 in the Breech Body section of the exploded parts diagram above. 3 of them.) Those coming loose are the #1 cause of GSG5 mechanical failures.

unloco 2 Posted August 26, 2009 No failures yet after 700 rounds. Had a couple of mag failures due to improper tension on the 15 round promags i purchased, i corrected the tension on the springs and walla!! Pretty accurate too even with my Aimpoint clone...can't complain!! "Tacticool" when outfitted with the right goodies!
DirtyDigz 1,812 Posted August 26, 2009 ttt how do you guys love these so far.. im really thinking about one.. Cons: - There's no real "field strip" option on the gun, just various levels of detail strip. In order to give the gun a thorough cleaning you have to split it in half which requires manipulating lots of screws. - You have to check the bolt jacket fasteners regularly to make sure they don't back out. - It's finicky about ammo. Premium copper jacketed hollow points work best. Soft lead bullets just can't handle the feed ramp angle. - Not a lot of availability/choice in NJ-compliant magazines. rrages.com is the only place I'm aware of selling 15 round mags. Pros: - When it's being fed the right ammo, it's (relatively) cheap rapid-fire plinking nirvana - It's surprisingly accurate - People love to shoot it and chicks dig it hard. Great "introductory" gun for first time shooters.
