I'll give them a teeny tiny bit of credit for finally realizing the futility of the marketing/demonizing of the visual characteristics of so-called assault weapons, however, their spin on "gas operated" shows that they haven't got much smarter.

actually, that was their best bet. it is/was the easiest way to get the negative emotions of stupid people fired up. i mean.....look at how much they've fucked us over because of that. now they're going to a point where those stupid people won't "get" what they're trying to sell, especially considering grandpas hunting rifle was probably gas operated.

I agree, they really only had the stigmatized features to draw emotion from.

Are people going to say, hey if it's gas semi that's sooooo dangerous compared to xyz...

Black scary rifle definitely makes a bigger mark in people's minds than determining how a bullet is cycled into a chamber.

The plan all along, the long game, was to get black scary rifles banned and then for the antis to say "oh, guess what, these blued steel and wood rifles don't look the same as those ARs we banned, but work the same way, they gotta go too".  The AR was always just a stepping stone, one that would not rile up the Fudds with semi-auto deer rifles.  They knew it would be a hard sell to ban grandpas semi-auto deer rifle, especially when so many grandpas at the time were WW2 vets with enough backbone to stand up to a total semi-auto ban in the 80's.
