Freedom-First 2 Posted October 6, 2009 What brand of 00 Buck do you deer hunters out there prefer? I have a Mossberg 835 and am planning to use the 3" shells. I'm thinking I want something with a buffer and will use a full choke.
tbtrout 141 Posted October 6, 2009 I use Winchester.
totalabuse 27 Posted October 6, 2009 Slugs! I don't know anyone that uses 00 anymore.
tbtrout 141 Posted October 6, 2009 I would use Buckshot when stalking in dense cover. If posted or in open terrain I have a slug in.
Guest Posted October 6, 2009 after much testing before slugs were legal in n.j. , i found 2 3/4" # 1 buck shot to be the best performer in four different shotguns with full , modified , + cyl. choke -
Freedom-First 2 Posted October 6, 2009 Thanks for the replies so far.. Yeah... I'm kinda on a tight budget this year and I don't have a slug barrel for my gun. That's why the buckshot.
totalabuse 27 Posted October 6, 2009 Then stay away from three inch. It's unnecessary.

Tash329 2 Posted October 30, 2009 Qestion? I will be shooting slugs this year for my first time. I know nothing about the different slug ammos. I'm using an 870 reciver with a Mossberg made 870 cantilever & rifled barrel with 3" chamber. What type of slug can I use besides the pricey Sabotted slugs. Can I use slugs, rifled slugs or? I found a place online called Ables, they sell slugs for $34 a box of 50 (bulk buy) but the only info. they give is there "2 3/4" 1oz slugs", I have no idea if I can use these. Reason for so many, is I still need to sight in the scope, don't want to use 3" do to recoil. Is the best range for slugs in the 75 to 100 yards range? Thanks. coldsolderjoint 84 Posted October 30, 2009 Interesting.. Now I'm thinking that I should run some of these rifled slugs through my rifled barrel. It sure beats paying $3 a slug
