K98 Sight Hood

Hey guys, I'm looking to put a sight hood on my Russ. Capture K98, I know where I can get one but I heard different things about getting it on. I've heard reverse pliers or circle sping pliers. I'm confused, I don't want to have it and not be able to put the damn thing on. Any experience with this?

First make sure your front sight base is milled for a sight hood, there should be a little groove milled into the base of the front sight. Some earlier ones didn't have a hood and dont have the grooves. And all I use is 2 zip ties, one around each side of the hood. Pull the zip ties like handles to spread the hood and slide it on the base. If you run into any issues pm me.

I have used reverse pliers to get them on in the past, spring steel can be a pain in the butt but it will go on

with some elbow grease.

All post 41 or 42 not sure which one, have the ability to take the hood.They are easy to put on with snap ring pliers. Just make sure you are careful when you install because they are easy to send flying. Also make sure that you get a good quality hood, some of them are crappy and are very brittle

So i took a peek at my front sight and it has striations like there was a front sight there and two little "tabs" on either side. would that be correct?

Post 1941 only? I guess that makes sense why I didn't see the mounting points on mine, it was made in 1938. I thought something was wrong but I guess not. Thanks for the info.

 

Apex has the original hoods and screws as well.
