Don't Tread On Me

First Rifle (New Guy)

Excellent choice 8-) You will love that rifle. Just make sure you only shoot federal out of it, and you should have no problems. Post pics when you bring it home!

I'm curious about your federal comment. Is that from personal experience, if so why?

I will defiantly by posting pictures, don't worry!

Because Remington .22 ammo is garbage? Seriously. Don't buy it. Pure shitaki.

CCI and Blazer will probably both do just fine as well as Federal.

I bought my 15-22 in the beginning of Feb., and have done a ton of research on these rifles. There was/is a problem with the rifle not fully seating the rounds, and possibly blowing out the extractors. From everything I have learned cheaper ammo can cause this issue to occur. When you get it, there will be a list of specific ammo that is recommended from S&W. Federal , and federal bulk is one of the highly recommended choices. I have shot somewhere in the ballpark of 1000 rounds through mine and have experienced no issues. I exclusively shoot Fed bulk though it. Just my .02. Not to talk about other forums here, but S&W forums has a dedicated 15-22 thread that is a awesome wealth of information. Check it out and have fun with your new tacticool rifle :D

I've personally not tried Federal yet (would like to), but I have almost 300rds of CCI Mini-Mag through mine with not one single issue.

Plan on trying CCI Blazers next. Those seem more readily available than the MiniMags and Federal Bulk packs.

Haha thanks brother, that looks great.

I was reading on the S&W forum about how there are certain serial numbers that have issues.

Also identifiable by the color of the spring (blue means no problem, silver means prone to problems).

If you do have the issue S&W will do a fix for free.

Are you familiar with this, if so has your gun had any problems and what color is your spring?

Haha.. I'm just teasing you man, but its a great rifle. Loads and gobs of fun to shoot.

But yes, I'm familiar w/ the serial# issues and the springs. As a matter of fact, I started one of the original threads on that board that indicated that the DTX serial # ones seemed more problematic, which worried me because mine is a DTX! I also do NOT have the blue springs (but there have been reports that even some blue spring models have had issues).

All that being said, when I finally brought mine to the range, it performed flawlessly. DTX serial be damned!!

I think the type of ammo has a lot to do with it. I've used only CCI Mini-Mags in mine but plan no trying out the CCI Blazers as well. Just make sure you dont use any of the Remington ammo, stick to quality .22LR rounds and you should be good.

Give us a range report when you get it!
