Malsua 1,422 Posted July 17, 2010 Well my permit to purchase should be in soon and ive come up with these two choices and am wondering if anyone on here has one and has any info on either of these ; first choice is RUGER LCR 38 SPECIAL and my second choice is S&W NIGHTGUARD 38 SPECIAL , i would love to hear anyones opinion on theses , thanks ... Have you looked at the SW 638? The reason I ask is because it has a shrouded hammer. The Night guard is full spur, the LCR is fully enclosed hammer,(DA only) the SW 638 is between the two. The shrouded hammer allows sticking it in your pocked without snagging the spur yet still allows you to shoot it in single action.
vozella 2 Posted July 17, 2010 I have an LCR. I love it. However, my wife loves it more. It is a nice handling, reliable revolver. I have about 300 rds. through it so far (both .38 & .38+P) and it has been flawless. I've owned S&W revolvers and they are also nice guns. I suggest to handle both the Ruger and S&W and go with what feels best in your hand. They will both fire the same. Think twice about going with a .357 in a small revolver. It is brutal. hopper 36 Posted July 17, 2010 I actually forgot to put that in my post , the revolver would mainly be for my wife , she isnt to sure about my semi autos so i figured a nice 38 would be good for her in case she ever needed to defend herself , of course i will be shooting it too ...thanks for all the info
vozella 2 Posted July 17, 2010 Actually, I bought an LCP, the lightweight Ruger .380 for my wife. She didn't like the semi-auto because you had pull the slide back. She immediately liked the LCR revolver, and the fact it is a .38 was a plus.
hopper 36 Posted July 17, 2010 Thats exactly the reason my wife doesnt like the semi autos , figured you cant go wrong on the simplicity of a revolver ...
powerrockbill 0 Posted July 17, 2010 plus one for the sw638. Ever think about getting a sw686? Heavier gun might be more pleasant to shoot. Get more lead downrange before you start to feel it. I believe the 686 comes in a shorter barrel--2in if you looking for a snub style.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted July 17, 2010 plus one for the sw638. Ever think about getting a sw686? Heavier gun might be more pleasant to shoot. Get more lead downrange before you start to feel it. I believe the 686 comes in a shorter barrel--2in if you looking for a snub style. I think his original choice - the 315NG - makes more sense than the 686. Smaller (K vs. L frame). Lighter w/ an alloy frame and a SS cylinder. Depends on how/if she would carry it on whether or not the hammer spur is a consideration. The 638 is a great suggestion for the reasons stated, and again, dependent on carry you can put some full-size rubber Hogues on it to make it more controllable for her. I love my 638 and generally carry it in a Galco Ankle-Glove. Adios, Pizza Bob
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted July 17, 2010 I have an LCR and love it. Everyone who shoots it loves the little blaster too. The trigger is smooth and the grips are second to none. But, I do like your second choice as well, can't go wrong with one of those night guard revolvers.
