IDPA Classifier Match - 1/16/11

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if its mandatory to sign up to idpa prior to the shoot or can someone just shoot for fun and remain unclassified

Per the rulebook, you're allowed to shoot one match without registering with the IDPA. I can't imagine anyone will call you out on this/enforce this, but that's what it says. I registered a few months ago. If you shoot it without registering it just means the classification won't be on the IDPA website, and you might not be able to sign up for a state/national match in your appropriate division.

I registered for IDPA too - have my card and all the info at home. If you guys sign up this week hopefully you'll get your stuff in time. I signed up on 12/22 and got the stuff on 12/30

so it's not enough to just register say the day before...

u need the physical credentials or what have you to classify?

can't just have a member number or whatever it is?

I went for a little while...only shot the first round and SUCKED really bad - gun consistently malfunctioned, not sure why though. Had to leave early for family obligations. Gotta go back eventually to redeem myself!! Pretty cool for my first time out though. Hope everyone else does better than I did!!

What a long day!

I arrived around 9:30 because the website said 10:15 but apparently there was a mix up in the scheduling because their newsletter said 11:30.

I left around 6ish and it wasn't even over yet.

As far as how I shot, ehhh... some strings I felt I did well(for myself) and others were just terrible.

I guess we'll see when the scores are posted.

Good times though

Yup, that was me!! Thanks again. Gonna go to the range sometime this week to see if I'm having the same problems. I wish I could have stayed being it was my first time there and only my 2nd time at an event similar to that. Definitely good times though... Maybe I'll see you next month.

nice job mrp!

Thanks! Lordy, that was a long day. I thought the same thing as you when I saw the website and would've been veeeeery early, but Glenn straightened me out when I got to his house. Nick, when's the video going to be up? Can't wait to laugh at myself fighting with my SERPA lock.

Yeah Glenn called me up saying you were at his house and was wondering what time we had to be there.

Video will hopefully be up tonight. Depends on how much time I have.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
