7.7 Jap ammo

So does anyone know of any websites that are selling 7.7 Jap ammo? Much preferably under $20 for 20 but I'd go up to $30. Out of all my rifles only the type 99's ammo is eluding me, and I would really like to fire it. (Technically I have a box of twenty but that won’t last long)

Grafs has a bit more selection but they are currently out.

 

I have a 7.7 as well and I think investing in some dies is the only way to feed this thing.

 

That and a bunch of 30-06 brass.

I feel your pain in trying to afford ammo for the type 99. The best thing to do is to invest in a reloading press, dies, and the equipment to cast your own bullets. I haven't gotten the supplies, but I have a list of items necessary for under 330 dollars. Its in MS Excel format if you're interested in seeing it.

Sorry to hear that. Lee makes a portable hand press that might be good for other calibers but I wouldn't recommend trying it to resize 30-06 cases down to 7.7.

 

I have the press but I keep my eye out for used dies. I'm too cheap to pay full price for them and anymore even the new dies are getting hard to find. I just friggin missed out on a set on fleabay because I was on a conference call at work.

I see this ammo at gun shows often enough, I don't remember what it was going for since I don't have any Jap guns, but I'm sure if you look around at some better shows you could come across some deals.

I found 7.7 Jap brass, but it doesn't say if it was from reformed 30-06 or new brass. But its pretty pricey for a bag of one hundred. Heres the link. Shouldn't need to resize since its fresh brass taking a step out of the process making it easier.

7.7 Jap uses 308 bullets IIRC. That may be an option. I have a fantastic Arisaka, but same thing, ammo holding me back. =)

You can buy nice 303 / 7.7J bullets for $29 / 100 at midway, no need to be casting your own.

 

They also have new Norma brand (top shelf) brass available in stock.

 

Lee has dies in stock at Midway for $28.

I've been there before. Guy has GREAT prices on ammo. He even has really obscure 10.4x31 Rim fire for Veterali Swiss Rifles.

 

Melgamatic: Thanks for pointing that out. That shaves like another 100+dollars off of the list, making more easier to afford. Thanks.

 

 

EDIT: I just updated my list by removing the casting equipment and just having the Hornady Spirelocks and it dropped the price by over 120 dollars. At 19.99 for 100 you can't beat that.

 

I wonder if the Lee hand press would work for loading these?

FYI - I saw a guy at the Harrisburg show selling some new production 7.7 Jap. Apparently PPU or someone else did a run of this recently and it's available now. Look around and you will probably find some on the internet or go to the Splitrock show this weekend, the same guy is usually there.
