QuePsiPhiSmkr 14 Posted March 13, 2011 When my father passed away, he left several weapons to my mother (inheritance by default). She does not have a FID. If I wanted to transfer the weapons to me, would that be considered a purchase and fall under the one a month rule???? Thanks
SJ Shooter 10 Posted March 13, 2011 Wait for a expert but i think there a estate permit you can get where you can get more than 1 handgun in that type of transfer.
Jon 264 Posted March 13, 2011 Yes, they are all considered purchases. All of the long guns can be transferred at one time(certificate of eligibility must be filled out for each long gun, you and your mother should each retain a copy for each weapon). For the handguns, you must apply and receive a permit for each(you can apply for as many permits as you want), and I would recommend filling out the "One gun a month exemption" forms: http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/info/forms.html SP-015 and SP-016. You will need to list the serial numbers of all the handguns, and then file the forms with your local PD. These forms can be turned in at the same time as your permit paperwork. Once you've been approved for the exemption and have your permits, then you may transfer all the handguns to you. Hope this helps!
djg0770 481 Posted March 13, 2011 OP, FYI, the exemptions are basically being rubber stamped. I have not heard of anyone being rejected yet for an exemption and your case is a perfect fit for one of the exemption rules. If you have questions about any of the forms, feel free to ask anyone here.
