Looking to get my wife her first shotgun so she can go trap shooting with me.

 

Need help picking a good gun and having that gun fitted for her.

 

I would also like to get a new custom fitted gun for myself as well.

 

Would be great if the place sold guns as well.

They are expensive, but for something like fitting I would go nowhere else. General gunsmithing anyone can do but fitting is different.

G&H is pricey, but I'm sure their assessment is done right. If you desire a "fitting," you'll need to make an appointment with them and the cost is $200. I believe they perform this at the shooting facility now, on Stanhope Rd. in Andover. However, they are not the only game in town. Any good gunsmith who works with wood and knows shotguns should be able to accomodate you. If you shoot enough over time you will have your measurements memorized as to what fits you best and what won't. Sometimes it makes buying the next shotgun easier since many sold have their dimensions published. (You'll notice G&H publishes stock dimensions on each of their shotguns for sale.) When I have this information, I know if the shotgun will fit me or not before I even shoulder it. There's plenty of stuff to search on the internet about "stock fit." A properly fitted stock makes the difference between a good shooting shotgun and a great shooting shotgun, whether it's afield or in competition.

 

Here is a simple read on gunstock fit. All it reviews is one person's take on LOP and some mention on comb height. It doesn't even delve too much into cast or pitch, two other items that have bearing on proper fit.
