gunnarsport 13 Posted December 5, 2011 Hi, I should be getting my third pistol permit from Robbinsville PD soon and I will be purchasing my first semi auto. I already own 2 revolvers. I am a lefty, and have narrowed my choices down to either the CZ85B(fully ambidextrous model) or the HK USP, both in 9mm. Any folks here either own these pistols, or have thoughts? This will be strictly a fun recreational range gun and for self defense, but NOT for carry. Thanks
RecessedFilter 222 Posted December 5, 2011 Well at least you have narrowed your choice down to two great pistols! Have you tried handling each, or possibly shooting either one? Because that will be the ultimate test on which one you like more. All things aside, I will vote the CZ because I have a couple and I absolutely love the way they shoot! bLxZe 1 Posted December 5, 2011 I don't have anything but great things to say about my 9mm USP V1. It has performed flawlessly and has been a pleasure to shoot.
gunnarsport 13 Posted December 5, 2011 Handled both, have not shot either yet.
axeman_g 128 Posted December 5, 2011 Get the CZ.... save about $200 and use it on ammo. If it is just a range gun, then steel and adj sights over polymer anyday. Plus you could Cond I carry the 85 if you want. Totally underated gun by a company that loves civilian shooters... cant say that about H&K.
gunnarsport 13 Posted December 5, 2011 Why would steel over polymer be a better choice for a range gun?
Maksim 1,504 Posted December 5, 2011 Steel will reduce the felt recoil, all else being equal over polymer? Or at least will make it more enjoyable to shoot. The only polymer handguns I really like are the Hk P30 and the Smith Wesson M&P's. But it all depends on what you like to shoot. I would suggest going to ShoreShot, and renting a few pistols and seeing what you like. Don't buy on handling it at the gun store alone.
gunnarsport 13 Posted December 5, 2011 Got it...thanks. Yes, I will be definitely shooting them both before I decide. And the HK P30 is also a great pistol, but I dont like the rail serations on the bottom of the barrel, I like a more simplier look like the USP. RecessedFilter 222 Posted December 5, 2011 You're always welcome to shoot my 75b. It's the same as the 85b and has the same feel, just not ambidextrous.
gunnarsport 13 Posted December 6, 2011 Is the standard HK P30L with 15 rd magazine legal in NJ if its 15 + 1? Im assuming there is a 10 rd mag option for this gun?
Maksim 1,504 Posted December 6, 2011 yes, 15 rounds in the mag. That is all the law is concerned with. the +1 in the pipe has no legal impact.
gunnarsport 13 Posted December 6, 2011 Thanks, Maskim, I was always under the impression that if its 15 +1, that is considered 16 rds and that would be illegal in NJ. This is good to know.
