What would be the cheapest cost to put up personal outdoor range?

Recommended Posts

Don't want to get into specifics but a close relative owns property up in West Milford.. Roughly 150 acres.. No plans on doing anything up there.. Purchased it a while ago and has just been holding onto it.. Was bored the other day and it hit me.. Why not look into putting up a range.. At first I thought about putting up a "real" range as a business but wasn't sure what kind of survival it would have in a state that has the kind of laws that it has..So I was thinking about a nice outdoor personal range.. Maybe have a couple of lanes or something.. Still have to find out if there are any kind of ordinances and such in the town but just floating the idea and wanted to see what kind of money it would take to actually put it up... Nothing fancy.. Just the basics.. I mean the land would be technically free.. I have family that own some construction equipment so that would be technically "free".. The more I think about it the more it seems like it wouldn't cost much...

This is basically what i've done. I just set up a modest 25yd range with a few chainsaws, a backhoe, and a few good friends. Knocked it out in a few days and most of it was running loads of dirt for the backstop.

Here's a vid from a few days ago recorded by joeskilove

Firearm ranges.

In accordance with Chapter 146, Firearm Ranges, the permit fee for the operation of a firearm range is $250.

I wonder whether the fee is one-time or recurring?

If one-time, $250 is not too bad.

Regulation of hours and operational days by the muni sucks, but what do you expect in the PRNJ?

You don't have to get fancy as long as there's no laws against discharging firearms! Just go shoot!

I know I dont have to get fancy but would like something nice lol.. Would be nice to be able to have a group meet and such.. And to have the place a little "professional" looking lol..
